Himax Unveils Enhanced LCoS Microdisplay for AR, >1000:1 Contrast

Himax Technologies unveiled significant advancements in its high-contrast miniature LCoS microdisplay technology at Display Week 2026, tailored for next-generation AR glasses. The new solution features improved optical efficiency, a compact design (0.09 c.c., 0.2 grams), and a resolution of 720x720. Key enhancements include a FOFO contrast boost from 250:1 to 450:1, further extended to over 1000:1 with Dynamic Light Modulation, making it ideal for lightweight, all-day wearable AR devices.
