Teva Acquires Emalex Biosciences for $700M Upfront

Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. announced the closing of its acquisition of Emalex Biosciences, strengthening its late-stage pipeline with ecopipam, an investigational asset for pediatric Tourette syndrome. The acquisition involved an upfront payment of $700 million, with potential for up to an additional $200 million in commercial milestone payments and net sales-based royalties. Ecopipam, a selective dopamine D1 receptor antagonist, has received FDA Orphan Drug and Fast Track designations, and a U.S. NDA submission is anticipated in the second half of 2026. This move aligns with Teva's "Pivot to Growth" strategy, expanding its neuroscience pipeline to address a significant unmet medical need.
