Vodafone completes Safaricom acquisition, increases stake to 55%

Vodafone Group Plc announced that its African subsidiary, Vodacom Group Ltd, has completed the acquisition of an additional effective 20% of Safaricom Plc's issued share capital. This transaction increases Vodacom's total shareholding in Safaricom to 55%. The acquisition involved Vodacom purchasing 15% from the Government of Kenya for KES 204 billion (€1.36 billion) and 5% from Vodafone for KES 68 billion (€0.45 billion). As a result, Safaricom will now be fully consolidated by both Vodacom and Vodafone.
