Manali Petrochemicals Ltd. Wins Customs Duty Dispute, Saves Rs. 3.83 Crore

Manali Petrochemicals Ltd. has received a final order from CESTAT, dated 23rd March 2026, allowing their appeal against a customs duty demand of Rs. 3.83 crore (plus interest) on the import of Quicklime. The dispute arose due to the Adjudicating Authority, DRI, Mumbai's allegation of misclassification under CTI 2825 9090 instead of CTI 2522 1000 as declared by the Company. However, the Tribunal upheld the Company's classification under CTI 2522 1000, as the Calcium Oxide purity of the imported goods ranged between 91%–95%, which is below the 98% threshold required for classification under CTI 2825 9090. Consequently, the demand has been set aside in its entirety, resulting in a favorable outcome for the Company. The financial impact of writing back the provision made is being assessed, and appropriate steps will be taken as applicable. The Company will keep the Stock Exchanges informed of any further material developments.
