MDA Space Awarded $474M for Telesat Lightspeed Expansion
MDA Space Ltd. has been awarded a $474 million follow-on order from Telesat LEO ULC to expand the Telesat Lightspeed low Earth orbit constellation. This order adds 27 MDA AURORA satellites, bringing the total number of MDA-supplied satellites for the constellation to 225. The contract also includes the addition of 500 MHz of military Ka-band to the satellites and other long-lead items, with the majority of the value expected to be added to MDA's backlog in Q3 2026. This expansion supports the Strategic Partnership Agreement with the Department of National Defence to provide connectivity across the Canadian Arctic, and MDA Space will also serve as the prime contractor for the ESCP-P UHF and X-band constellation.
