Adani Energy Commissions 1,000 MW Power Link for Mumbai Clean Energy
Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL), through its subsidiary Adani Electricity Mumbai Infrastructure Limited (AEMIL), has commissioned a 1,000 MW high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission link between Kudus and Aarey. This 80-km project, featuring the world’s first compact HVDC substation, aims to enhance grid reliability and energy security for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) by enabling a greater flow of renewable power into the city. Conceived after the October 2020 Mumbai blackout, the link reduces dependence on in-city generation, lowers outage risks, and supports India's decarbonization goals by integrating long-distance clean power. The VSC-based HVDC technology offers efficient power flows, improved voltage stability, and black-start capability.
