BPCL Commissions 2G Bioethanol Refinery at Bargarh, Producing 100 KL/day

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (BPCL) has successfully commissioned its Second-Generation (2G) Bioethanol Refinery at Bargarh. The facility produces 100 KL/day of fuel-grade bioethanol from rice straw through advanced lignocellulosic technology, pretreatment, and fermentation. Designed as a Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) plant with solid-liquid separation, it ensures efficient resource use and environmental stewardship. The project was delivered safely with ~20 million LTA-free manhours, reflecting outstanding teamwork and engineering excellence. This initiative supports India’s E20 Ethanol Blending Programme and National Biofuels Policy, reducing emissions and fostering a circular economy.
