Blue Star Q1FY27: PAT falls 15% YoY to ₹102.5 Cr as Unitary margins collapse on costs
Blue Star's consolidated Q1 FY27 (June 2026 quarter) revenue was ₹3,377.92 Cr, up 13.3% YoY — landing within the company's own revised 10–15% YoY guidance — but down 17.0% QoQ as the pre-summer AC dispatch bump seen in Q4 FY26 unwound. Consolidated PAT was ₹102.51 Cr, down 15.3% YoY as reported; adjusted for this quarter's ₹9.17 Cr exceptional gain on a property sale (which has no year-ago comparable), the underlying YoY PAT decline is steeper at roughly -20.9%. Sequentially, PAT fell 54.9% from Q4's seasonally strong ₹227.18 Cr. Standalone tells a materially worse story: standalone PAT dropped 36.1% YoY to ₹69.36 Cr on revenue of ₹3,198.27 Cr (+12.4% YoY) — more than 20 points steeper than the consolidated decline, meaning overseas subsidiaries and JVs partially offset the parent's weakness this quarter. The margin squeeze sits almost entirely in the Unitary Products (room air conditioner) segment. Its PBIT margin collapsed to 2.94% from 5.83% a year ago and 10.43% last quarter, even as segment revenue grew 12.7% YoY to ₹1,689.31 Cr — volumes and pricing held, but per-unit profitability did not. Group NPM compressed to 3.02% from 4.03% YoY and 5.55% QoQ; OPM fell to 5.18% from 6.71% YoY and 8.01% QoQ. The Electro-Mechanical Projects segment fared better, holding PBIT margin at 6.78% (down from 7.90% YoY) — closer to management's target band. Management's own release frames this plainly as "Margins Hit by Costs." On guidance: management's FY27 revenue guidance, cut in recent weeks to 10–15% YoY from an earlier 25–30% band, was met this quarter (+13.3% YoY). But the margin guidance from the Q4 FY26 concall — segment margins of 7–7.5% for Projects and 8–8.5% for Unitary Products via price pass-through — was clearly missed, particularly in Unitary Products where the actual margin came in at barely a third of target. No Q1-specific street consensus could be found; the broader Trendlyne FY27 consensus (24 analysts) had priced in +27.6% full-year PAT growth, a bar this quarter's -15.3% YoY decline sits well short of. This quarter's corporate developments — the board's appointment of Nikhilesh Panchal as independent director (effective August 14) and Blue Star's arbitration win against WJT (July 23) — are governance/legal items not reflected in the P&L. The filing itself carries no updated full-year FY27 guidance or fresh margin commentary. Going into Q2 FY27, the read is that AC demand and revenue growth held up in line with the company's own revised range, but the cost/price-pass-through risk management flagged on the Q4 FY26 call has materialised rather than being managed away. The next checkpoints are whether Unitary Products margin recovers toward the 8–8.5% band and whether 10–15% revenue growth guidance holds through the remaining peak summer months.
Key Highlights
- Consolidated revenue +13.3% YoY to ₹3,377.92 Cr — within the company's revised 10–15% YoY FY27 guidance — but down 17.0% QoQ as Q4's pre-summer AC dispatch bump unwound.
- Consolidated PAT ₹102.51 Cr, down 15.3% YoY (down ~20.9% YoY adjusted for this quarter's ₹9.17 Cr exceptional gain, which has no year-ago comparable); down 54.9% QoQ from Q4's ₹227.18 Cr.
- NPM compressed to 3.02% from 4.03% YoY and 5.55% QoQ; OPM fell to 5.18% from 6.71% YoY and 8.01% QoQ.
- Unitary Products segment PBIT margin collapsed to 2.94% from 5.83% YoY and 10.43% QoQ — well below management's 8–8.5% target — the main driver of the profit miss even as segment revenue grew 12.7% YoY.
- Electro-Mechanical Projects segment PBIT margin held closer to target at 6.78%, down from 7.90% YoY.
- Standalone PAT fell a sharper 36.1% YoY to ₹69.36 Cr on revenue of ₹3,198.27 Cr (+12.4% YoY) — more than 20 points steeper than the consolidated decline.
- ₹9.17 Cr exceptional gain from a property sale boosted this quarter's PBT in both standalone and consolidated results; the year-ago quarter had no exceptional item.
