Coal India's Eco-Friendly Coal Transportation Surges by 34% in FY 2025

Coal India Limited (CIL) has reported a 34% year-on-year growth in its environment-friendly coal transportation through first mile connectivity (FMC) projects linked with the Indian Railway network in FY 2025. The growth is from 76.5 million tonnes (MTs) in FY 2024 to 102.5 MTs in FY 2025. The company plans to commission 19 FMC projects with a capacity of nearly 150 MT/Y during FY 2026. CIL aims to transport an estimated 20 MTs through FMC projects in the ongoing financial year. The increased loading through FMC has led to a 5% drop in underloading charges and a rise in grade conformity due to quality coal being loaded and transported in a mechanized manner. CIL plans to commission 92 FMC projects with a capacity of 994 MT/Y by FY 2029 end. The FMC initiative is an automated coal evacuation process that ensures eco-friendly coal transportation from pithead to loading points, reducing dust, noise, and vehicular emissions, minimizing road congestion, improving safety, and lowering wagon turnaround time.
