BirlaNu swings back to ₹57 Cr consolidated loss in Q2 FY27 as Floors losses deepen
BirlaNu Limited (formerly HIL) posted a consolidated net loss of ₹57.37 Cr in Q2 FY27 (EPS -₹76.08) on revenue of ₹884.52 Cr. Revenue grew 9.2% YoY from ₹810.15 Cr but fell 24.7% QoQ from Q1 FY27's seasonally stronger ₹1,174.02 Cr base. The loss widened 33.9% YoY from ₹42.86 Cr, and — more notably — reverses the ₹9.40 Cr profit the company had just posted in Q1 FY27, so the quarter reads as a step back rather than a continuation of a turnaround. The loss is concentrated in the Floors segment (Parador, the European flooring business), where segment PBT loss widened to ₹58.17 Cr from ₹37.41 Cr in Q1 FY27 and ₹28.58 Cr a year ago, even as Floors revenue slipped 3.8% YoY to ₹296.93 Cr — the opposite direction from the margin improvement management had guided toward. By contrast, the India-facing Roofs and Walls segments are healthy: Roofs PBT rose 84.8% YoY to ₹23.47 Cr on 28.2% revenue growth, and Walls PBT grew 22.6% YoY. Group OPM was roughly flat YoY (-1.13% vs -1.20%) but collapsed from +6.21% in Q1 FY27; NPM worsened to -6.49% from -5.29% YoY. About two-thirds of the YoY PAT deterioration traces to the tax line, which swung from a ₹5.84 Cr benefit a year ago to a ₹3.60 Cr expense this quarter, rather than to operating performance alone. Management gave no formal FY27 numeric guidance on the last call beyond the Parador-specific targets: 20-30 million in revenue upside over two years and a 300-400 bps EBITDA uplift from a BCG-led program "by Q4." This quarter's deepening Floors loss does not yet show that uplift materialising, though the Q4 checkpoint (board guided for around Q4 FY27) hasn't arrived, so it reads as a yellow flag rather than a miss. No management press release or commentary accompanied this filing, and no brokerage consensus estimate for this specific quarter could be found, so the print cannot be benchmarked against street numbers. Separately, the board approved incorporating a new wholly-owned subsidiary for a digital B2B platform for architects and designers (₹15 lakh initial investment) — unrelated to this quarter's numbers.
