
Hindustan Copper Ltd Resumes Surda Mine Operations, Set to Boost Employment and Economy
Hindustan Copper Ltd (HCL) has resumed the operations of Surda Mine, as announced by Shri Satish Chandra Dubey, Hon’ble MoS (Coal and Mines). The inauguration was held in the presence of several dignitaries, including Shri Ramdas Soren, Minister of Water Resources Department, Minister of Higher Education and Minister of Technical Education, Government of Jharkhand, and Shri Bidyut Varan Mahato, Hon'ble MP, Jamshedpur. The resumption of operations is expected to generate approximately Rs 100 Cr in revenue per annum and create around 1100 direct and 5000 indirect job opportunities. HCL also plans to enhance the mining capacity of Surda mine from 0.4 mtpa to 0.9 mtpa in the next seven years. The Jharkhand Cabinet has approved the lease extension for the Kendadih and Rakha mines, which are set to be reopened, leading to 2000 direct and 10,000 indirect employment opportunities and tripling the production of Indian Copper Complex. The extension of Surda Mining Lease was approved by the Cabinet of Jharkhand Government on 29.08.2024 and the lease deed was executed on 26.09.2024. A capital investment of Rs 50 Crore will be made by HCL for mining operation during the Fiscal Year 2024-25.
