Kabra Consolidated Revenue Jumps 64% YoY on GEON Ramp; Core Machinery Business Stalls
Kabra Extrusiontechnik's consolidated revenue came in at ₹220.96 Cr for Q2 FY27, up 64.2% YoY (₹134.60 Cr) and 77.5% QoQ (₹124.49 Cr), beating our pre-result preview's ₹185–195 Cr expectation by 13–19%. The beat was entirely a GEON/Battery Division story: that segment posted ₹165.95 Cr of revenue — roughly 75% of the total, up from ~35% a year ago — well above the ₹100–110 Cr we flagged pre-result, confirming the battery-pack ramp that started in September is now adding material dollars rather than token volumes. Consolidated PAT was ₹3.97 Cr against ₹0.33 Cr a year ago and a ₹1.74 Cr loss last quarter; NPM improved to 1.80% from 0.24% YoY and from -1.39% QoQ, though both prior bases were thin enough that the percentage swings overstate the underlying move — in absolute terms this remains a low-single-digit-margin business. Standalone PAT was ₹4.17 Cr on an almost identical revenue base, with the gap to consolidated coming from a ₹0.20 Cr net subsidiary/JV drag. The margin bridge is less clean than the revenue beat suggests. Segment operating profit (PBIT) was ₹12.85 Cr, an OPM of 5.82% — inline with our ₹10–15 Cr pre-result EBITDA band, but down from 6.66% a year ago, because the quarter's growth came from the lower-margin, still-scaling battery business rather than the core machinery franchise. Battery Division segment profit swung to ₹13.20 Cr (an ~8% segment margin) from a ₹12.20 Cr loss a year ago — a genuine turnaround — but the Extrusion Machinery segment, which produced ₹15.13 Cr of profit in the year-ago quarter, fell to a ₹0.12 Cr loss this quarter, i.e., essentially breakeven. Net effect: GEON's turnaround is funding nearly all of the group's profit while the legacy machinery business has gone flat, a trade rather than a straightforward expansion. Management gives no formal guidance on record, and the filing itself is limited to the board-outcome letter plus financial statements — there is no separate MD&A commentary to quote or check against. The quarter's corporate actions tie directly into the GEON narrative: the ₹141 Cr preferential allotment (32 lakh shares, with promoters taking a 4.89% stake) completed October 2, 2026, after ₹59.50 Cr was already received as share-application money during H1 — cash on the standalone balance sheet rose to ₹61.45 Cr from ₹1.97 Cr at March-end. Post-quarter, GEON commissioned a 10 MW BESS project (October 8) and incorporated a UAE subsidiary, Geon International FZ-LLC (October 6) — both outside the September-quarter numbers but consistent with the capital-deployment and international-expansion watch items we flagged pre-result. Working capital also expanded alongside the ramp: inventories rose to ₹353.07 Cr from ₹285.38 Cr at March-end, and current borrowings nearly doubled to ₹245.12 Cr from ₹141.03 Cr, funding the build-out ahead of revenue recognition.
