Simplex Castings to Lead India’s First Green Hydrogen-Powered DRI Plant
Simplex Castings Limited, in collaboration with a consortium of esteemed partners, has been selected to establish India’s first green hydrogen-powered Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) plant. The project, which has a production capacity of 40 tons per day, is part of India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission and aligns with the goals of the Ministry of Steel and the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. The plant will utilize cutting-edge vertical shaft technology and green hydrogen as the primary reducing agent, resulting in water as the sole byproduct and eliminating CO2 emissions. The estimated project cost of INR 230 crore will receive 70% government backing. This pioneering pilot project is expected to spur local economic growth and serve as a scalable model for clean, sustainable steel production.
