Sun Pharma Gets SAHPRA Approval for Generic Semaglutide

Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Limited has received approval from the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) to manufacture and market a generic version of semaglutide injection. This approval allows Sun Pharma to offer a treatment for adults with inadequately controlled type 2 diabetes mellitus as an adjunct to diet and exercise. The product will be available in two strengths and is planned for launch in the coming days. This marks South Africa as the second market, after India, where Sun Pharma has secured approval for generic semaglutide, highlighting the company's capability in developing complex generics for diverse markets and its commitment to improving access to essential medicines.
