Consolidated loss widens 38% YoY to ₹106.9 Cr as Phase 3 trial R&D spend climbs 43%
Suven Life Sciences posted a consolidated net loss of ₹106.94 Cr for Q2 FY27 (quarter ended 30 Sep 2026), widening 38.3% year-on-year from ₹77.31 Cr, with basic EPS at -₹3.77 versus -₹3.48 a year ago. There are no exceptional items on either side of the comparison, so this is a clean YoY read with no adjustment needed. Operating revenue remains practically nil at ₹1.20 Cr — up 30.4% YoY but down 66.4% QoQ — underscoring that this is a pre-revenue, clinical-stage biopharmaceutical; the ₹6.73 Cr of "other income" sitting in the P&L is investment/interest income on the company's cash and mutual-fund book, not operating income. Conventional margin ratios (NPM/OPM) aren't meaningful here given the near-absent revenue base; the real driver is R&D intensity. Consolidated R&D expense rose 42.7% YoY to ₹100.30 Cr (from ₹70.32 Cr) as the company ran parallel Phase 3 programs for masupirdine (Alzheimer's-related agitation) and samelisant (narcolepsy), pushing total consolidated expenses up 40.1% YoY to ₹114.88 Cr. Sequentially, expenses actually fell 17.2% QoQ and the loss narrowed 16.2% QoQ from ₹127.61 Cr in Q1 FY27 — a step-down in quarterly trial-cost intensity rather than a margin improvement, and since YoY is the primary lens here, the loss trajectory is still structurally widening as more trials run concurrently. Standalone and consolidated numbers diverge sharply enough that readers need the context: standalone net loss is just ₹16.38 Cr against the ₹106.94 Cr consolidated figure. The gap sits almost entirely in the US subsidiary, Suven Neurosciences Inc., which the auditors' limited-review report separately notes carried a standalone quarterly net loss of ₹90.53 Cr — that is where the bulk of Phase 3 clinical costs for the CNS pipeline is booked. No formal management guidance exists on record, and a search turned up no analyst/street consensus estimate for this specific quarter, so both vs-guidance and vs-street read as unknown rather than assumed. Management's own framing, per its news release, is clinical-progress-led rather than financial: SUVN-502 (masupirdine) completed Phase 3 patient enrollment for agitation in Alzheimer's dementia with topline data targeted for Q2 calendar-2027; SUVN-G3031 (samelisant) Phase 3 for narcolepsy is in progress; SUVN-911 (ropanicant) completed its US Phase 2B "with successful outcome" and targets global Phase 3 initiation in Q2 calendar-2027; and SUVN-D4010 (usmarapride) began a Phase 2 proof-of-concept study for cognitive dysfunction in October 2026. The quarter's financing action matters alongside the P&L: the board converted 1.857 crore warrants into equity during the quarter, bringing in ₹248.84 Cr and lifting standalone investments to ₹1,111.44 Cr; of the ₹857.64 Cr raised under the May-2025 preferential issue, ₹320.01 Cr remains unutilized as of 30 Sep 2026 to fund the ongoing Phase 3 programs. Going into Q3 FY27, the markers to watch are the masupirdine last-patient-last-visit (targeted Q1 calendar-2027, with topline data potentially Q2 calendar-2027) and whether the R&D run-rate keeps climbing against the remaining unutilized warrant proceeds.
