Tata Chemicals Magadi Ltd Wins Case Against Kenyan County Government, Avoids Land Revenue Arrears of INR 783 Crore

Tata Chemicals Magadi Ltd (TCML), a subsidiary of Tata Chemicals Ltd, has won a case against the County Government of Kajiado, Kenya. The dispute was over a demand raised by the County Government for land rates. The Court of Appeal, Nairobi decided the case in favor of TCML, stating that the demand was arbitrary and illegal. The revised demand stood at Kenyan Shillings 11.84 billion (INR 783 crore) as of March 31, 2025. The management of Tata Chemicals Ltd will make a decision on the contingent liabilities based on this judgement.
