TCPL Packaging Ltd to Manufacture Lithium-ion Battery Separator Films

TCPL Packaging Ltd announced its strategic entry into the manufacturing of lithium-ion battery separator films through a proposed subsidiary. This move marks a significant diversification into the advanced chemistry cell battery materials sector. The company plans to invest ₹125 crore over the next 18 months, with project implementation expected during 2026-2027 and commercial production targeted for early 2028. This venture leverages TCPL's existing capabilities in specialized films, polymer processing, and precision manufacturing. The decision is supported by strong global and Indian battery demand outlooks, driven by electric vehicles, energy storage systems, and consumer electronics, with India's total battery demand projected to grow 500x by 2035. Government policies like the ACC Battery PLI Scheme are also expected to boost domestic cell manufacturing and, consequently, separator film demand.
