Tips Music Q2: PAT +24% YoY to ₹65.7 Cr on 35% revenue growth; margins trail last year
Tips Music's standalone Q2 FY27 revenue came in at ₹120.06 Cr, up 34.6% YoY and 12.7% QoQ, comfortably ahead of management's standing 20% FY27 revenue-growth guidance. Standalone PAT of ₹65.74 Cr grew 23.6% YoY (and 50.4% QoQ off a soft Q1 base) — also above the 20% PAT guidance, but profit growth trailed revenue growth YoY, the hard tell that margins compressed over the comparable quarter: NPM eased to ~52.8% from ~56.8% a year ago, and OPM to ~70.5% from ~76.0%. There are no reported exceptional items on either side of the YoY comparison, so this is a clean, unadjusted read. The margin story is a content-cost timing effect, not deterioration. Acquisition/in-house production cost was ₹12.13 Cr this quarter, up 109% YoY as new-release investment continues, but down ~70% from Q1 FY27's ₹39.95 Cr after Q1 expensed its releases upfront — which is why OPM snapped back to 70.5% from just 50.3% in Q1. H1 FY27 cumulative content cost stands at ₹52.07 Cr, roughly half of management's guided ₹90–100 Cr full-year content budget, implying a heavier spend is still to land in H2. Against our pre-result preview (revenue ~₹130 Cr, EBITDA margin 62–66%, PAT ₹42–46 Cr), the quarter undershot on revenue but beat decisively on margin and PAT — the 70.5% OPM print cleared the top of the preview's range, and PAT came in roughly 43–57% above the expected band. No formal Street consensus with specific Q2 numbers was found in search; FY27 full-year analyst consensus pegs revenue at ₹450.6 Cr (+20%) and EPS at ₹19.70 (+16.2%), a pace this quarter's print is running ahead of. Management did not release a separate press statement with this filing (none captured in our records), so framing comes from the results themselves and the standing concall guidance: 20% revenue/PAT growth and a 65–70% annual EBITDA margin band, both reaffirmed as of the August concall. The quarter also carried two corporate actions that don't flow through the P&L print but matter to the equity story — the ₹44.43 Cr/6,71,946-share buyback closed September 30 and was fully extinguished by October 8 (accounted for in this quarter's equity per note 3), and the board declared a ₹6.50/share interim dividend (record date October 22). Both reduce the share count and reflect confidence in cash generation alongside the reported growth. Going into H2 FY27, the key questions are whether the ₹90–100 Cr full-year content budget holds given H1's ₹52 Cr run-rate, and whether OPM — which swung from 50.3% to 70.5% quarter-on-quarter purely on cost timing — settles near management's 65–70% full-year target rather than the elevated 70.5% level just printed.
