TBZ Q2 FY27: consolidated PAT sinks 54.7% YoY to ₹14.3 Cr as gold-price squeeze hits margins
TBZ's Q2 FY27 (quarter ended 30 September 2026) consolidated PAT fell 54.7% YoY to ₹14.27 Cr; standalone PAT, the figure in the company's own press release, fell a smaller 49.7% YoY to ₹15.43 Cr — the roughly 5-point gap means the consolidated print, which is primary here, is meaningfully worse than the headline standalone number investors may see quoted elsewhere. Revenue from operations, identical on both bases at ₹705.35 Cr, grew just 2.5% YoY against a high prior-year base and fell 16.1% QoQ from ₹840.97 Cr in Q1 FY27. TBZ has no analyst consensus estimates on record (thin coverage), so vsStreet is unknown; it also carries no formal prior guidance, so the quarter cannot be graded against a stated target — management's own framing is the only yardstick available, and the numbers broadly match what they describe below. Margins, not volumes, did the damage. Standalone gross margin compressed 263 bps YoY to 14.2% and EBITDA margin fell 251 bps to 6.7%, as gold prices stayed high and broadly stable through the quarter, keeping the shift toward old-gold exchange and lighter, lower-karat jewellery firmly in place — a mix that compresses realised margin even as revenue holds up. PAT margin fell 228 bps YoY to 2.2%, further squeezed by finance costs up 16.7% YoY and an effective tax rate that rose to roughly 29.6% from 25.2% a year ago. Operating cost discipline was intact — employee and other expenses held at 7.6% of revenue versus 7.7% last year — so the entire margin story sits on the gross-margin line, not opex. The QoQ revenue drop is largely a calendar artifact rather than demand weakness: Navratri, which fell inside Q2 last year, has moved into Q3 FY27 this year, while Pitru Paksha (normally a slow period for jewellery buying) shifted into October. H1 FY27 revenue still grew 17.9% YoY to ₹1,546.33 Cr and EBITDA grew 3.1% to ₹118.07 Cr, though H1 PAT slipped 6.5% YoY to ₹48.28 Cr (standalone) on the same gross-margin pressure. CMD Shrikant Zaveri called it a "softer quarter" against "a high base," attributing the shortfall largely to the Navratri shift; CFO Mukesh Sharma's commentary on gross margin (14.2% vs 16.9%), EBITDA margin (6.7% vs 9.2%) and the finance-cost/tax drag matches the reported figures closely. The quarter closed alongside continuing progress on the GRT Jewellers transaction: the CCI approved GRT's acquisition of the promoter group's 74.12% stake (at not more than ₹209/share) on 13 October 2026, and the linked open offer for up to 25.88% of public shareholding at ₹249.61/share remains pending other regulatory conditions. Management reiterated that showrooms, Kalpavruksha plans, Gold Rate Protection bookings and the 100% exchange/buyback commitments continue unaffected. Heading into Q3 FY27 — which carries Navratri, Dhanteras, Diwali and the start of wedding season — the open question is whether the deferred festive demand converts into a QoQ rebound, and whether gross margin stabilises near 14% or erodes further in a still-elevated gold-price environment.
