UTI AMC Q2 FY27: PAT flat at ₹132 Cr (consol) as MTM swing hides ~18% core growth
UTI AMC's consolidated PAT for Q2 FY27 (quarter ended September 30, 2026) came in at ₹132.31 Cr, up a nominal 0.1% YoY from ₹132.20 Cr and down 54.98% QoQ from ₹293.86 Cr; consolidated revenue from operations was ₹414.59 Cr, down 0.95% YoY and 28.95% QoQ. Standalone PAT was ₹143.10 Cr, down 13.9% YoY — a materially different trajectory from the consolidated print, flagged here because the divergence traces to the same cause rather than a data error. The entire swing, both YoY and QoQ, sits in one line: net gain/(loss) on fair-value changes on the investment book. Consolidated recorded a ₹14.74 Cr net LOSS this quarter versus a ₹13.67 Cr gain in Q2 FY26 and a ₹187.13 Cr gain in Q1 FY27 (standalone mirrors this — nil this quarter vs ₹15.43 Cr gain a year ago). Strip that out and the core AMC business tells a steadier story: fee income from services, the actual revenue line tied to AUM, was ₹398.40 Cr, up 2.15% YoY and 5.19% QoQ. Employee benefits expense fell 19.3% YoY to ₹128.20 Cr (consol), broadly in line with management's ~₹130 Cr/quarter guidance from the Q1 FY27 call and consistent with post-VRS 2025 headcount savings; other expenses were down 3.6% YoY, undershooting the 8-10% growth management had guided. Applying each period's own effective tax rate to back out the fair-value item, adjusted PAT grew roughly 18% YoY — the figure that best reflects underlying profitability. A sector preview published October 9, 2026 (ahead of this result) flagged that 2QFY27 AUM growth across AMCs would be steady but modest, and that the Nifty 500's ~4% decline over the quarter would weigh on investment income and profitability — both calls play out almost exactly in this print via the FV loss. Management has given no formal revenue or margin target, only the ₹4 lakh Cr MF AUM / 2x group AUM-by-2031 milestones and the cost guidance noted above, both of which this quarter's expense trend tracks or beats; no fresh press-release commentary was available to cross-check against the numbers. Away from the P&L, the company disclosed a ₹3.31 Cr income-tax penalty order (September 28) that does not appear to have hit this quarter's tax line materially, alongside routine shareholding churn (HDFC MF raised its stake to 5.28%, Nippon India MF trimmed 0.39%) and board-committee/director changes that carry no numeric read-through. Going into Q3, the swing items to watch are whether the fair-value line reverts to a gain, whether the employee-cost run-rate holds near the ₹130 Cr/quarter guided level now that VRS savings are in the base, and whether QAAUM growth — described as "modest" in the pre-result sector preview — accelerates toward the stated AUM milestones.
Key Highlights
- Consolidated PAT ₹132.31 Cr, flat YoY (+0.1%) but down 54.98% QoQ — the QoQ drop is almost entirely a fair-value swing (₹187.13 Cr gain in Q1 FY27 to nil-to-loss this quarter), not a business slowdown
- Core fee income (sale of services) ₹398.40 Cr, up 2.15% YoY and 5.19% QoQ — the underlying AMC revenue line kept growing even as headline total revenue fell 0.95% YoY
- Net fair-value item swung to a ₹14.74 Cr LOSS this quarter (consol) vs a ₹13.67 Cr gain a year ago and a ₹187.13 Cr gain last quarter — stripping it out, adjusted PAT grew ~18% YoY
- Standalone PAT ₹143.10 Cr, down 13.9% YoY, diverging sharply from consolidated's flat print — same fair-value-swing mechanism, different base (prior-year standalone FV gain was ₹15.43 Cr)
- Employee benefits expense (consol) ₹128.20 Cr, down 19.3% YoY, tracking management's ~₹130 Cr/quarter guidance and reflecting post-VRS 2025 headcount savings
- EPS (consol, basic) ₹10.29 vs ₹8.82 a year ago; no exceptional items this quarter (FY26's ₹108.90 Cr VRS/labour-code hit was a full-year/Q4 item)
- Company also disclosed a ₹3.31 Cr income-tax penalty order (Sep 28, 2026) outside the P&L this quarter
