Vodafone Idea Ltd Wins Refund Case Against Income-tax Department: Receives Rs. 1,647+ Crores

Vodafone Idea Ltd has won a significant case against the Income-tax Department. The company had filed a Writ Petition before the Hon’ble Bombay High Court seeking direction to process the refund of income-tax as per return of income. The High Court upheld the company's plea and instructed the Income Tax department to issue the refund within 30 days along with applicable interest. The company received the due refund along with applicable interest amounting to Rs. 1,647+ Crores on December 8, 2023. The Special Leave Petition (SLP) filed by the Income Tax Department before the Hon’ble Supreme Court against this order was dismissed on ground of delay, thereby upholding the High Court's order. The company has already received the due refund, hence no further amount is receivable post this judgement.
