Voltamp Q2 FY27: revenue jumps 42% YoY, but margin squeeze caps PAT growth at 8%
Voltamp Transformers posted standalone revenue of ₹684.19 Cr for Q2 FY27, up 41.8% year-on-year and 25.8% sequentially — its strongest quarterly top line in recent memory, reflecting faster execution of its order book. Net profit, however, rose only 7.9% YoY to ₹85.08 Cr and actually fell 6.7% quarter-on-quarter from Q1 FY27's ₹91.22 Cr, so the revenue strength did not carry through to the bottom line. The gap is almost entirely a margin story. Net profit margin (PAT/total income) compressed to 12.3% from 15.85% a year ago and 15.58% in Q1. Core operating margin (PBT adjusted for other income, depreciation and finance costs, over revenue) fell to 15.46% from 19.39% YoY — though it improved from Q1's 14.77%. Net material cost (cost of materials net of inventory build) rose to 76.1% of revenue from 70.7% a year earlier, consistent with the input-cost pressure on the company's legacy fixed-price order book that PL Research flagged after a soft Q4 FY26 print and subsequent downgrade to Accumulate. The other swing factor was Other Income, which fell to ₹7.93 Cr from ₹41.61 Cr in Q1 and ₹14.76 Cr a year ago — per the cash-flow statement these are largely fair-value (FVTPL) gains on the investment book, which are lumpy quarter to quarter rather than a one-off exceptional item. A ₹6.09 Cr deferred tax credit held the effective tax rate to 22.3% (vs 24.3% a year ago), cushioning but not offsetting the hit. There is no formal management guidance on record for this result, and no broker-consensus estimate specific to Q2 FY27 could be sourced, so both the vs-guidance and vs-street reads are unknown; FY27 full-year consensus (per public trackers) pegs EPS near ₹327, which H1 FY27's basic EPS of ₹174.26 is tracking toward only if H2 improves. On the ground, capex continued: capital work-in-progress rose to ₹171.6 Cr from ₹108.4 Cr at March 2026, and the company commenced production at its new EHV transformer plant in Vadodara on October 7, 2026 — a 6,000 MVA greenfield facility. No press release or management commentary accompanied this filing beyond the standard board-outcome letter, so there is no fresh company framing of the quarter to reconcile against the numbers. Going into Q3 FY27, the quarter leaves two things to track: whether the new Vadodara capacity lifts volumes without further margin drag as it ramps, and whether the legacy fixed-price book — estimated by PL Research at roughly ₹300 Cr and largely due to clear within 1-2 quarters — stops weighing on input costs. For now, revenue growth is not translating into proportionate profit growth.
Key Highlights
- Standalone revenue ₹684.19 Cr, up 41.8% YoY and 25.8% QoQ — a record quarterly top line on faster order execution.
- Net profit ₹85.08 Cr, up just 7.9% YoY and down 6.7% QoQ — PAT growth trails revenue growth sharply.
- Net profit margin compressed to 12.3% of total income from 15.85% YoY and 15.58% QoQ, driven chiefly by a sharp drop in Other Income (₹7.93 Cr vs ₹14.76 Cr YoY, ₹41.61 Cr QoQ) and higher net material costs (76.1% of revenue vs 70.7% a year ago).
- Core operating margin fell to 15.46% from 19.39% YoY on input-cost pressure tied to the legacy fixed-price order book, even as it improved sequentially from Q1's 14.77%.
- EPS ₹84.10 for the quarter vs ₹90.17 in Q1 FY27 and ₹77.94 a year ago.
- Effective tax rate eased to 22.3% (helped by a ₹6.09 Cr deferred tax credit) from 24.3% a year ago, partially cushioning the PAT hit.
- Capital work-in-progress rose to ₹171.6 Cr from ₹108.4 Cr at March 2026 as the new EHV transformer plant at Vadodara (6,000 MVA), which began operations October 7, 2026, ramps up.
