Western Carriers Inaugurates Kolkata Cargo Terminal

Western Carriers (India) Limited (WCIL) has inaugurated its General Cargo Terminal (GCT) at the GCD Yard of the Kolkata Dock System, marking its entry into Eastern India's port infrastructure. This marks WCIL's first operational base on India's east coast, complementing its Gujarat facility. The terminal, developed under a 15-year agreement with Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port Authority (SMPA), will handle containers and various cargo types. Phase I is operational, with Phase II development expected within 90 days, involving an estimated investment of ₹13.68 crore. This expansion aims to enhance multimodal connectivity, support higher cargo volumes, and align with the government's logistics development initiatives.
