Bharti Airtel's Q1 FY27 (audited, consolidated) revenue came in at ₹58,539 Cr, up 18.4% YoY and 5.7% QoQ, comfortably clearing the ₹52,500-53,500 Cr range we flagged pre-result and beating the Street's cautious-on-seasonality read. Consolidated net income before exceptional items rose 35.5% YoY to ₹8,057 Cr (vs ₹5,948 Cr in Q1'26) against a preview band of ₹6,800-7,200 Cr — a clear beat; reported PAT (after exceptional items, owners' share) was ₹8,167.4 Cr, +37.3% YoY. India Mobile ARPU rose to ₹264 from ₹250 YoY (also above the ₹253-258 preview range), aided by continued postpaid premiumisation — postpaid net adds hit an all-time-high 1.0 Mn for the quarter.

The margin story is one of YoY expansion but a mild QoQ give-back: EBITDA margin was 57.4%, up 0.5pp YoY but down 0.4pp from 57.8% in Q4'26, sitting within the 57-58% band flagged pre-result. India EBITDA margin held at 60.1% (vs 59.5% YoY). The bridge is opex discipline — consolidated opex (ex access/COGS/license fee) fell to 28.9% of revenue from 29.8% a year ago, consistent with management's 'war on waste' guidance — plus mix: Homes (+33.2% YoY) and Airtel Business (+12.0% YoY) grew faster than core India Mobile (+9.2% YoY revenue), while Africa delivered 21.1% YoY constant-currency revenue growth with EBITDA margin expanding to 50.1% from 48.8%. A ₹353.4 Cr exceptional charge for an African subsidiary's commercial-dispute settlement was largely neutralised by a ₹389.8 Cr exceptional tax benefit from a favorable order on prior-year business losses, so the headline PAT growth is barely inflated by one-offs (adjusted PAT growth is essentially the same ~34-35%).

What management guided (4 FY-2026 call)
Management is focused on accelerating ARPU growth through portfolio premiumization and postpaid penetration, despite dissatisfaction with recent performance and a 'broken' industry pricing structure. — This quarter: met

Against the prior concall's guidance — accelerating ARPU via premiumisation/postpaid, capex roughly in line with FY26 but shifting toward fiber/edge-DC/Nxtra/Airtel Cloud, and 'war on waste' cost discipline — the quarter is on track: ARPU and postpaid delivered, capex of ₹13,386 Cr (India ₹9,698 Cr) is broadly in the FY26 ballpark, and opex ratios improved. Standalone PAT grew faster YoY (+44.2% to ₹5,427.5 Cr vs consolidated's ~35%), reflecting the narrower India-only base rather than a stronger underlying trend — readers should treat the two numbers as measuring different things, not a contradiction. During the quarter the company also completed a share-swap transaction lifting its Airtel Africa stake from 62.62% to 78.93% (further to 79.11% via Airtel Africa's own buyback), management calling it EPS-accretive; S&P upgraded Airtel's credit rating to 'BBB+'; and the group crossed 650 million customers globally. Regulatory penalties from DoT/TRAI this quarter (subscriber-verification and portability lapses) totalled under ₹10 lakh combined — immaterial to the print. Management's own framing ('strong operational performance underscores strength of our strategy and sharp execution') is borne out by the numbers: broad-based growth, margin resilience, and a beat against both Street and our pre-result expectations.
