AUM Momentum + PMS Integration Setup Q2 Print
After 18% AUM growth and 23% PAT upside in Q1, Street eyes Q2 for PMS acquisition traction and fee-pressure management. Market share and organic flows are the gating factors.
What Matters Most
For a wealth manager like ICICI Prudential, two numbers drive the print: AUM (market share and organic flows) and fee realization (the basis points earned per rupee of AUM). Q1 showed strong traction on both — AUM hit a record ₹11.17 lakh crore, up 18.3% YoY with 13.4% market share, while PAT jumped 23% to ₹965 crore on higher operating leverage. The Street is watching whether Q2 sustains momentum or whether the August equity rally's pullback has dampened flows.

On-plan tracking for 15% FY27-28 CAGR; market share hold the test
~₹1,620–1,680 Cr
Q1 was ₹1,564 Cr; modest 3-7% QoQ growth assumes stable fee yield
~₹1,000–1,050 Cr
Q1 was ₹965 Cr; 20%+ YoY growth contingent on cost control and other income
~62–65%
Q1 delivered 62%; higher employee costs (post-IPO bonus reset) may weigh
On Track for FY27 Guidance?
ICICI Prudential has guided for AUM, revenue, and PAT CAGRs of 15%, 14%, and 15% respectively over FY26–FY28. Q1 delivered 18% AUM growth, outpacing the base case, but equity market volatility from August onward is a headwind. Flows in the June–September window are critical: the fund-raising cycle in India typically slows after monsoon relief announcements and before festive season positioning. A strong print means organic flows (including insurance policyholders' SIP inflows) remained resilient; a weak one signals that the market rally has stalled inflows.

The Setup
ICICI Prudential enters Q2 FY27 on strong macro footing: AUM is at record highs, market share is stable at 13.4%, and profit growth is in the low-20% range. The PMS acquisition de-risks the wealth agenda by importing ₹3,000 crore of third-party AUM — a material add if integration is smooth. However, two cross-currents loom: (1) equity market slowdown post-August, which typically dampens discretionary SIP flows and raises fee pressure as passive AUM (lower-margin) grows faster than active; and (2) talent retention and cost inflation post-IPO, visible in Q1's margin stability at 62% (vs historical 63–65%). Street is broadly sanguine, but the Q2 print must show that organic flows — the true test of distribution strength — are holding.
1 · AUM & Market Share
Did quarterly average AUM grow 15–18% YoY? Did ICICI hold or gain market share vs peers in a softer equity market? A slow print (below 12% growth) signals flow loss; a strong print (above 17%) backs the Street's 15% CAGR narrative.
2 · Fee Yield & Revenue Mix
What was the basis point yield per AUM, and did passive AUM eat into overall fee realization? Q1 yielded ₹140 bps per lakh crore (₹1,564 Cr ÷ ₹11.17 L Cr). A yield below 135 bps in Q2 is a red flag; above 140 bps (despite passive inflows) is a beat and suggests active product pricing power.
3 · Margin & Operating Leverage
Can ICICI Prudential defend 62%+ operating margin amid higher employee costs and PMS integration spend? A margin compression below 60% (even if temporary) will invite Street questions on sustainable PAT growth; a hold or expansion of 62–65% validates the operating leverage thesis and supports the ₹3,600+ target range.
ICICI Prudential's Q2 story hinges on flows in a choppy market. The headline numbers—AUM, market share, PAT—will be solid if the August rally holds; the Street's 12-month ₹3,640 target assumes organic growth discipline and PMS bolt-on accretion from H2. Watch the flow data in the commentary, and listen for color on fee pressure and cost inflation. A surprised Street would be an AUM growth dip below 12% or a margin slip to the high-50s; a positive surprise would be flows that accelerate the digital-distribution thesis or early PMS traction. Result day is October 12.
