Before the market opened on October 14, Biocon told the exchanges it has entered into a global settlement and license agreement with Genentech for Pebrilzo®, its biosimilar to Perjeta® (Pertuzumab). The agreement, per the filing, resolves all pending disputes between the two companies — including in the US, Canada and other jurisdictions — and fixes the earliest dates on which Biocon is licensed to launch: Q1 of calendar 2027 in the European Union and UK, Q3 of calendar 2028 in the US, and CY2026–2028 in other Rest-of-the-World markets, or earlier in certain circumstances.

Global patent settlement and license agreement with Genentech for Pebrilzo (bPertuzumab)

Biocon and Genentech executed a patent settlement agreement resolving all pending disputes between the companies, including in the US, Canada and other jurisdictions. The settlement and license agreement enables Biocon to launch Pebrilzo in Q1 CY2027 in the EU and UK, Q3 CY2028 in the US, and in CY2026–2028 in other Rest-of-the-World countries — or earlier in certain circumstances. The other terms of the agreement are confidential, and the filing notes that launches in all countries/regions remain subject to regulatory approval.

Read:Open-ended patent litigation is replaced by a fixed calendar. The filing gives holders dates, not economics — the confidential terms mean any royalty or payment obligations attached to the license are not disclosed.

BSE filing, Oct 14, 2026

Pebrilzo's active substance is Pertuzumab, a monoclonal antibody that binds to the human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2), inhibiting proliferation of tumour cells that overexpress HER2; it is used to treat HER2-positive breast cancer across multiple disease stages. The settlement is the legal half of a launch; the regulatory half is still in progress — the filing itself flags that launches in every market remain subject to regulatory approval.

The market's same-session response was close to nil: the stock closed at ₹350.60 on October 14 against ₹351.00 the previous day, a move of −0.1%. One reading — and this is inference, not the filing — is that a settlement which trades litigation risk for a 2027–2028 launch calendar changes the shape of the Pebrilzo opportunity more than its near-term size, particularly with the agreement's economics undisclosed.

EMA CHMP issues positive opinion recommending marketing authorisation for Pebrilzo

Biocon Biologics, Biocon's wholly-owned subsidiary, announced that the European Medicines Agency's Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use issued a positive opinion recommending the granting of a marketing authorisation for its Pertuzumab biosimilar as a 420 mg concentrate solution for infusion, under the brand name Pebrilzo, for HER2-positive breast cancer. Per the release, it is the first biosimilar to secure a CHMP approval recommendation under the EMA's new tailored clinical approach.

Read:A CHMP positive opinion is a recommendation, not the authorisation itself — but it is the step that makes the newly licensed Q1 CY2027 EU/UK launch window actionable.

10-year Pertuzumab supply contract in Brazil under the PDP program

Biocon signed a partnership agreement with Bahiafarma and Bionovis for Pertuzumab in Brazil under the country's Productive Development Partnership (PDP) program. The consortium received 100% allocation under Brazil's 10-year PDP program for Pertuzumab, giving it exclusive access to Brazil's public healthcare channel for the product, per the release.

Read:Biocon, Bahiafarma and Bionovis hold 100% allocation under Brazil's 10-year PDP program for Pertuzumab, giving the consortium exclusive access to a public-healthcare market that accounts for roughly 70% of the country's Pertuzumab demand; Biocon receives milestone payments and a revenue share over the 10-year period.

BSE filing, Sep 8, 2026

Read together, the three filings assemble a launch stack for one molecule: a regulatory recommendation in Europe (September 21), a contracted 10-year buyer in Brazil (September 8), and now the patent license that sets when each market can open (October 14). What the stack still lacks — on the filings' own terms — is the final EU marketing authorisation, and any visibility on what the settlement cost.

The Pebrilzo news flow has landed on a declining tape. From ₹437.95 on July 22 the stock slid to ₹346.35 by October 12 — the last close of ₹354.40 sits 20.7% below the 52-week adjusted high of ₹447.15 set on July 16, and 4.9% above the 52-week low of ₹337.70 from April. One piece of ownership context from the window: a revised disclosure filed on August 26 records that Mylan Inc. sold its entire stake — 9,19,67,019 shares, 5.64% of equity — on July 14, 2026, leaving its post-disposal holding at nil.

Q1 FY263941.989.219%
Q4 FY254417459.424.9%

Consolidated, as filed. Q3 FY26's net loss includes an exceptional item of −₹293.4 Cr. Selected quarters shown.

The most recent quarter, Q1 FY27, put consolidated revenue at ₹4,336 Cr — up 10.0% on Q1 FY26's ₹3,941.9 Cr — with net profit of ₹136.8 Cr against ₹89.2 Cr a year earlier. The recent record is not uniformly smooth: Q3 FY26 was a loss quarter (−₹51.8 Cr) on a −₹293.4 Cr exceptional item. None of the Pebrilzo economics are in these numbers yet — by the settlement's own calendar, the earliest licensed EU/UK launch is Q1 CY2027, so any revenue from it is an FY2027–28 story at the soonest. That sequencing is inference from the licensed dates, not a company forecast.

What to watch

The gates between here and launch

  • EU marketing authorisation

The September CHMP opinion is a recommendation; the filing stresses every launch is subject to regulatory approval. The European Commission's final authorisation is the gate before the Q1 CY2027 EU/UK window.

  • Q2 FY27 results

The trading window closed October 1 until 48 hours after the September-quarter results; the board meeting date is to be intimated. First management commentary since the settlement.

  • A RoW launch before Europe

The license allows other Rest-of-the-World launches in CY2026–2028 "or earlier in certain circumstances." Brazil's PDP consortium is a contracted candidate channel for that window.

  • Settlement economics

The agreement's other terms are confidential. Any disclosure of license costs, royalties or payments in subsequent filings would size what the launch calendar actually earns.

The October 14 filing converts Pebrilzo's biggest open question from whether Biocon can launch into when: Q1 CY2027 in the EU and UK, Q3 CY2028 in the US, CY2026–2028 elsewhere, with all pending Genentech disputes resolved. Combined with September's CHMP recommendation and the 10-year Brazil supply contract, the molecule now has a legal calendar, a regulatory path and at least one contracted buyer.

What it does not yet have is a final EU authorisation, disclosed economics, or any contribution to the P&L — and the market priced the settlement accordingly, at −0.1% on the day, with the stock 20.7% below its July high. The next verifiable markers are the European Commission's final decision and the Q2 FY27 results.
