GSFC's consolidated PAT for Q2 FY27 fell 38.2% YoY to ₹200.24 Cr (from ₹324.11 Cr) even as consolidated revenue surged 48.7% YoY to ₹4,740.94 Cr — a sharp divergence between topline and bottom line that makes this a weak quarter despite the headline growth. Standalone, which accounts for nearly all of the Group's business (subsidiaries/associates contributed just ₹209 Cr of assets and under 1% of Group revenue this quarter, per the auditor's note), posted an even sharper PAT decline of 42.8% YoY to ₹183.08 Cr; the ~4.6 percentage-point gap versus the consolidated decline is explained by the Group's ₹8.78 Cr quarterly share of associate profit (including Karnalyte Resources Inc.) that standalone excludes. Sequentially, revenue rose 32.3% and PAT rose 26.3% QoQ, but that is a seasonal kharif-season lift typical for a Q2 fertilizer print, not a trend signal — the YoY comparison is the one that matters here.
Q2 FY-2027 vs prior quarters
The compression traces to a mix shift within the Fertilizer Products segment rather than a straightforward cost shock: standalone purchase of stock-in-trade nearly quadrupled YoY to ₹2,217.99 Cr — 47% of revenue versus 18% a year ago — as the company leaned on purchased/traded product to meet demand, which carries thinner margins than manufactured output. Segment PBT for Fertilizer Products collapsed to ₹16.62 Cr from ₹224.43 Cr a year ago (-93%), while Industrial Products PBT rose a comparatively modest 21.7% YoY to ₹65.64 Cr (from ₹53.92 Cr) — nowhere near enough to offset the fertilizer shortfall. Consolidated net profit margin (on total income) fell to 4.08% from 9.73% YoY, though it was roughly flat sequentially against Q1 FY27's 4.38%, since the trading-mix pressure was already building last quarter.
The stock went into the print at ₹136.61, down 9.4% over the past month of trading.
For context: this is the second-highest quarterly PAT of the last 6 quarters; PAT has now risen for 2 consecutive quarters; revenue is at a 6-quarter high.
What the summary numbers don't show
EPS: consolidated basic ₹5.02 (vs ₹8.13 YoY) — standalone basic ₹4.60 (vs ₹8.04 YoY).
Management expressed confidence in continued strong performance, particularly in the Industrial Product segment, citing improving caprolactam-benzene spreads. For the fertilizer segment, while raw material markets remain unsettled due to geopolitical factors, government support through revised NBS rates is expected to
— This quarter: missed
This result reads as a miss against management's own Q4 FY26 framing, which said revised NBS rates would "protect margins" on DAP and urea and that "any shortfall [in other NPK grades] is expected to be offset by the industrial segment" — a 93% collapse in fertilizer segment profit is far larger than a "minor" shortfall, and industrial segment growth fell well short of covering it. No street consensus estimates for this specific quarter turned up in search, so vsStreet is marked unknown rather than inferred. On the corporate side, the Board approved a new Phosphoric & Sulphuric Acid plant at the Sikka unit on 13th October 2026, consistent with management's stated capex plans continuing "supported by strong balance sheet and liquidity" — standalone cash and equivalents rose to ₹718.84 Cr from ₹160.75 Cr at FY26-end and short-term borrowings rose to ₹609.99 Cr from ₹25.00 Cr, while government subsidies receivable more than doubled to ₹3,392.96 Cr from ₹1,490.95 Cr, consistent with NBS-subsidy-driven revenue growth working through working capital rather than the P&L this quarter.
W1
Fertilizer segment PBT recovery — standalone segment PBT was ₹16.62 Cr this quarter (down from ₹224.43 Cr YoY); watch whether the stock-in-trade share of revenue (47% this quarter vs 18% YoY) normalizes.
W2
Industrial Products segment momentum — PBT grew 21.7% YoY to ₹65.64 Cr on caprolactam-benzene spreads; track whether it scales further to offset fertilizer weakness as management guided.
W3
Sikka Phosphoric & Sulphuric Acid plant capex, approved 13th October 2026 — watch for outlay/timeline disclosures against H1 FY27 capex spend of ₹75.31 Cr (down from ₹219.08 Cr in H1 FY26).
Both statements reconcile exactly (totalIncome = revenue+otherIncome; PAT = PBT-tax, consolidated includes ₹8.78 Cr share of associate profit). Clean, legible digital statement, no exceptional items disclosed.
