Margin leverage test — can growth + tech efficiency power 40%+ PAT gains?
Lenskart enters Q1 FY27 on a strong run: FY26 saw revenue +32%, adjusted PAT +148%, and store expansion accelerating. The Street expects continued momentum on digitization, unit economics, and footprint. Watch whether margin leverage persists amid JV integration and competitive pricing.
What to expect
~₹23k–24k Cr
~25–28% YoY growth; trajectory implies ₹92–96k for full FY27 if steady.
~18–20%
FY26 run-rate; watch for store density gains and tech-driven cost leverage.
~₹1.4k–1.6k Cr
Margin expansion only if operating leverage offsets higher capex on store rollout.
500+
Company guided for 5.6k+ by FY30; Q1 should show sequential store adds.
Strong quarter: Revenue exceeds ₹24k Cr, PAT beats ₹1.6k Cr, and gross/EBITDA margins hold above 20%. Signalling tech-driven efficiency gains and store unit economics on track. Weak quarter: Revenue misses ₹23k Cr, PAT below ₹1.4k Cr, or margin compression from competitive pricing or store ramp costs. Would suggest either a slowdown in like-for-like sales or JV/capex headwinds.
On track?
Lenskart is executing on a multi-year playbook: FY26 delivered ₹90k Cr revenue (+32%), ₹5.3k Cr adjusted PAT (+148%), and ₹23.5k Cr Q4 revenue alone. A mid-20s percent Q1 print would align with that trajectory. The company has signalled no major business headwinds — all filings point to accelerating store rollout (toward 5.6k by FY30), digital penetration rising, and unit-level margins expanding through automation. A 30%+ PAT growth would confirm the thesis; anything below 20% YoY invites questions on mix, competition, or capex intensity.
What the Street says
Since last quarter
1 · Metal-frame JV is live (July 30, 2026)
Lenskart incorporated Lenskart Metalframes Private Limited with China-based Mingfeng Glassesworld. Strategic move to localize metal-frame production and reduce import costs. Early-stage in Q1; contribution likely under 5% of earnings, but symbolic of backward integration.
2 · Subsidiary merger (consolidation)
Board approved merger of Dealskart Online Services and Lenskart Eyetech into the parent (July 2, 2026). Streamlines reporting and centralizes product/platform strategy. Minimal accounting impact but signals operational tightening.
3 · OWNDAYS stake increase (Japan play)
Lenskart acquired remaining 3% stake in Quantduo Technologies (June 9) and approved additional OWNDAYS shareholding (May 20). International diversification, but offshore earnings still ~5–10% of group. Watch guidance on FY27 geography mix.
4 · Promoter/insider activity
MacRitchie Investments sold 2.05% stake (July 10 @ ₹490). Platinum Jasmine Trust sold 2.30% (June 12 @ ₹490). Routine portfolio churning at ~15% discounts to current price; no red flag, but shows SE Asia PE exits. FII up 40bps to 4.26% in latest quarter; DII stable. Healthy institutional interest.
5 · AGM and AGM notice (Aug 19, 2026)
18th AGM on Aug 19; FY26 annual report already circulated. No contentious shareholder proposals reported. Expect dividend confirmation and routine board governance items.
Three things to watch on result day
1 · Like-for-like store growth & comp-store sales
Is the LFL growth in low-to-mid 20s% or accelerating into the 30s? Store productivity (sales per location) is the true proof of unit economics. A slowdown here would suggest urban saturation or pricing pressure.
2 · Gross margin and EBITDA run-rate
Can gross margin stay above 60% and EBITDA margin above 18–20%? Any compression here invites mix/pricing concerns. Conversely, a 100bp+ expansion would signal the tech-efficiency flywheel is accelerating.
3 · FY27 guidance and JV/capex outlook
Will management reiterate full-year revenue/PAT guidance and provide a view on the metal-frame JV contribution & cash capex for store expansion? Quiet on this front = either conservative posture or caution on second-half visibility.
Lenskart is at an inflection: FY26 proved that digital + scale + tech can drive 30%+ profit growth. Q1 FY27 is the test of whether that's a one-year sprint or a multi-year stride. The Street is betting on the latter — hence the Buy consensus and targets north of ₹600. A strong Q1 (revenue ₹24k+ Cr, PAT ₹1.6k+ Cr, margin expansion) would re-affirm the thesis and likely push the stock toward ₹625–650. A soft Q1 (revenue ₹22.5k Cr or less, margin squeeze) would trigger a debate on capex vs. profitability and invite a re-rate down to ₹540–560.
Watch revenue growth (target ₹24k+), margin integrity (EBITDA >19%), and management's tone on second-half demand and FY27 guidance. The JV is window-dressing for now; the real story is unit economics at 5.6k stores and whether automation keeps pace with store density.
