Max Financial Services' consolidated (primary) Q2 FY27 profit came in at ₹100.30 Cr, sharply up from ₹5.87 Cr a year ago, on revenue from operations of ₹11,601.09 Cr (+18.5% YoY). The headline PAT jump is largely a base-effect story: the life insurance segment (Axis Max Life, 80.01%-owned) posted a segment profit of ₹136.61 Cr this quarter versus just ₹23.73 Cr in Q2 FY26, when investment-linked results were unusually weak. Sequentially the quarter cooled off from Q1 FY27's strong print — PAT fell 15.2% QoQ (₹118.29 Cr → ₹100.30 Cr) and revenue fell 22.5% QoQ — so the YoY strength should be read against that softer sequential trend rather than as fresh acceleration.
Q2 FY-2027 vs prior quarters
Margins expanded on both measures: net profit margin rose to 0.86% of revenue from 0.06% a year ago (0.79% in Q1 FY27), and the core-segment operating margin (life insurance plus business investments result, before unallocated corporate costs) rose to 1.16% from 0.21% YoY (1.11% QoQ). Of the ₹100.30 Cr group profit, ₹79.92 Cr was attributable to owners (basic/diluted EPS ₹2.33) and ₹20.38 Cr to non-controlling interests in AMLI, where Axis Bank and its subsidiaries hold the remaining ~19.99% stake. The standalone holding-company entity, by contrast, posted a ₹1.65 Cr loss for the quarter on revenue of just ₹3.18 Cr — typical for a pure holding structure whose value sits entirely in the insurance subsidiary.
The stock went into the print at ₹1,231.3, down 12.7% over the past month of trading.
For context: this is the second-highest quarterly PAT of the last 6 quarters.
No formal FY27 numeric revenue/margin guidance given. Management reiterated VNB margin expansion aspiration (20.1% Q1 FY26 → 23.2% Q1 FY27) and intent to grow VNB faster than APE going forward. Solvency maintained at 198%, QIP of ₹1,600 Cr approved through May 2027.
Management gave no formal FY27 numeric revenue or margin guidance on the prior call, only reiterating an aspiration to lift VNB margin toward 23.2% (from 20.1% in Q1 FY26) and to grow VNB faster than APE — neither VNB nor APE is disclosed in this P&L filing, so that aspiration cannot be checked from these numbers alone. Street previews (PL Securities, Oct 6) had pencilled in roughly 15% APE growth and a ~25% VNB margin for the quarter; no PAT-specific consensus could be found and the filing itself doesn't break out APE/VNB, so the vs-Street read stays unresolved pending the investor presentation. No separate management press release was available for this result to cross-check framing. Our pre-result preview flagged SEBI's show-cause notice as a watch item: the regulator issued its final order on August 24, 2026 disposing the matter without penalty, which the standalone notes confirm required no further financial adjustment — a clean resolution of that overhang. The GST notice, capital-raise and ESG-rating items flagged pre-result were not separately addressed in this filing.
