What was announced

On August 28 Ola Electric's promoter and CMD, Bhavish Aggarwal, posted the launch of the S1Z scooter: a 46160-format LFP cell the company calls the Bharat Cell, a claimed 301 km IDC range, an introductory price of ₹79,999, bookings open, and deliveries in December. The post says the cell, motor, vehicle and software are built in-house. The company filed the post with the exchange at 16:44 IST, after market close; a teaser post ("Kicking off our LFP era") had been filed at 06:17 IST that morning.

The filing does not state the battery capacity, the number of variants, or the standard (non-introductory) price. Press coverage on launch day described a second, larger-battery variant at a higher price; those details are not in the exchange filing and are not repeated here.

Where the LFP claim comes from

The teaser filing reproduces an April 7 post in which the CMD said the company's LFP cell was ready and that thousands of vehicles powered by its 4680 cells were already on the road. The Aug 12 press release on the ACC PLI scheme states that Ola Cell Technologies has 2.5 GWh of installed cell capacity with a further 3.5 GWh under installation, expects to reach 6 GWh by the end of the current quarter, and has secured a five-year PLI window through CY2031 worth up to ₹7,240 crore for its 20 GWh allocation, with disbursements quarterly from next quarter. The release describes a multi-chemistry platform spanning NMC and LFP.

Consolidated revenue was ₹690 crore in Q2 FY26, ₹470 crore in Q3, ₹265 crore in Q4 and ₹455 crore in Q1 FY27. Net losses over the same four quarters were ₹418 crore, ₹487 crore, ₹500 crore and ₹336 crore. Q1 FY27's loss is the smallest of the four on revenue that recovered from the Q4 low. Ola sells directly to customers through its own network, so there is no dealer margin in the ₹79,999 price.

Where ₹79,999 sits

Listed peers in electric two-wheelers are Ather Energy (separately listed; Hero MotoCorp is a large shareholder), TVS Motor (iQube), Bajaj Auto (Chetak) and Hero MotoCorp (Vida). Hero's Vida VX2 range is listed on BikeWale at ex-showroom prices from about ₹1.10 lakh (2.2 kWh) to ₹1.61 lakh (4.4 kWh). On list price the S1Z's introductory ₹79,999 is below those variants; the comparison is on price only, since the S1Z's battery capacity and standard price are not in the filing.

What to watch

The filings that would test the launch

  • deliveries

December deliveries: any exchange filing or monthly registration data showing S1Z volumes.

  • cell-capacity

The 6 GWh installed-capacity milestone the company said it would reach by the end of the September quarter.

  • q2-results

Q2 FY27 results (October–November): revenue, gross margin and the loss trend against Q1's ₹336 crore.

  • pli-disbursement

First quarterly PLI disbursement, per the Aug 12 release's timeline.

The S1Z is a price and a range claim backed by an in-house cell; the filing gives those three facts and a December delivery date. What it does not give is the battery size, the standard price or the cost of the cell, which is where the economics of a ₹79,999 scooter will be decided.

The numbers to hold against the launch are the ones the company already reports: quarterly revenue, the loss line, and the cell-capacity milestones it has tied to the PLI scheme.
