PCBL Chemical's consolidated PAT rose 20.2% YoY to ₹74.14 Cr (from ₹61.70 Cr) on revenue growth of 14.4% YoY to ₹2,474.45 Cr, with basic EPS at ₹1.88 versus ₹1.63 a year ago. Sequentially, though, PAT fell 52.1% from Q1 FY27's ₹154.93 Cr even as revenue was flat QoQ (₹2,473.37 Cr) — a pure margin story, not a demand one. Standalone PAT of ₹80.01 Cr came in ~8% above the consolidated figure, with the gap explained by the Chemical segment (Aquapharm and peers), which posted segment PBIT of just ₹5.24 Cr on ₹433.25 Cr of revenue this quarter.

The margin compression sits almost entirely in the core Carbon Black segment (~80% of group revenue): its PBIT fell to ₹190.67 Cr from ₹315.83 Cr in Q1 FY27 (-39.6% QoQ) while segment revenue held near-flat (₹1,978.53 Cr vs ₹2,003.93 Cr), pulling the company's own-disclosed consolidated operating margin down to 10.81% from 14.76% in Q1. Finance costs also rose to ₹103.88 Cr from ₹92.51 Cr QoQ. This matches what brokerages flagged ahead of the print: ICICI Securities had called for muted Q2 FY27 profitability as the temporary inventory gains that flattered Q1 margins reversed, alongside a risk of destocking from falling crude prices. On a YoY basis, however, both operating margin (10.66%→10.81%) and net margin (2.86%→3.05%) edged up rather than compressed, per the company's own ratio disclosures — the sequential dip is a normalization off an unusually strong Q1, not a YoY deterioration.

What management guided (1 FY-2027 call)
FY27 EBITDA/ton: 14-15% improvement over FY26 avg (₹16,500-17,000/ton). Volume: high single-digit growth, weighted to H2. Aquapharm: ₹75 Cr quarterly EBITDA target deferred by new CEO pending deeper analysis.

— This quarter: met

Against Street, Prabhudas Lilladher had modeled Q2 FY27 EBITDA down 16% YoY to ~₹305 Cr; the actual consolidated EBITDA works out to ~₹310 Cr (PAT + tax + finance costs + depreciation), with PAT up 20% YoY rather than down — a mild beat versus that cautious call. Management's FY27 guidance of a 14-15% improvement in EBITDA/tonne over the FY26 average (₹16,500-17,000/tonne) was reiterated as of the late-July concall and an analyst meet held September 29, 2026; this filing contains no tonnage disclosure to verify the per-tonne metric directly, but H1 FY27 consolidated EBITDA of ~₹710 Cr is up ~17.8% YoY from ~₹603 Cr in H1 FY26 — running ahead of the low end of that target, consistent with management's prior framing that volume growth is weighted to H2. No management press release or concall transcript was available in the records alongside this filing, so their own characterization of the quarter could not be cross-checked here.

H2-weighted volume guidance: Carbon Black segment PBIT fell to ₹190.67 Cr in Q2 from ₹315.83 Cr in Q1 FY27 — watch Q3 for the high-single-digit volume growth management guided toward H2

  • W2

FY27 EBITDA/tonne target of 14-15% improvement over FY26 avg (₹16,500-17,000/tonne): H1 FY27 consolidated EBITDA is up ~17.8% YoY to ~₹710 Cr — confirm the pace holds once tonnage data is available

Aquapharm's deferred ₹75 Cr quarterly EBITDA target under the new CEO's review — Chemical segment PBIT was just ₹5.24 Cr this quarter vs ₹11.92 Cr a year ago

No exceptional items this quarter or year-ago quarter (both nil); standalone PAT (₹80.01 Cr) exceeds consolidated (₹74.14 Cr) by ~8% as Chemical/Aquapharm subsidiaries ran near-breakeven (segment PBIT ₹5.24 Cr); clean digital PDF, column headers and prior-period figures cross-checked exactly against records.
