Vimta Labs opened FY27 with a steady, in-line quarter rather than an acceleration. Standalone revenue from operations rose 11.8% YoY to ₹109.07 Cr and net profit rose 11.4% YoY to ₹21.04 Cr (EPS ₹4.71 vs ₹4.25), with net margin edging up to 19.3% from 19.0% a year ago. Sequentially the print was essentially flat — revenue -0.2% and PAT -0.3% against a strong Q4 (₹109.25 Cr / ₹21.11 Cr) — which is a soft handoff given Q4 is typically the peak quarter. The company runs a single segment (Contract Research & Testing) and reported no exceptional items this quarter, so reported and underlying growth are the same ~11%.
Q1 FY-2027 vs prior quarters
The number sits below both external and internal bars. Analysts model 15-20% PAT growth for FY27; the ~11% Q1 print trails that. It also runs well short of management's own Q4-concall stretch target of 20-25% revenue CAGR, so on the growth headline this reads as a miss, even as the margin promise held — operating margin at ~34.2% is broadly in line with the year-ago 34.5% and within the 1-2% correction management had cautioned on for cost pressures. The bottom line was helped by a more-than-doubling of other income (₹1.75→₹3.81 Cr) and a lower ESOP charge (₹0.85 Cr vs ₹1.52 Cr), while other expenses rose ~14% YoY — so the profit quality is a touch softer than the headline PAT growth implies.
The stock went into the print at ₹545.4, down 3.8% over the past month of trading.
What the summary numbers don't show
No exceptional items this quarter — unaudited, limited review, unmodified auditor conclusion
Management aims to maintain the strong Q4 revenue momentum, targeting a stretch goal of 20-25% CAGR, supported by robust demand in core pharma and food testing. While expecting to sustain industry-leading EBITDA margins, they caution a potential 1-2% correction due to cost pressures, which they plan to offset with reve
— This quarter: missed
Strategically the watched item is biologics: management had guided commercialization of its ~₹50 Cr biologics CRDS build-out from Q1 FY27, with the explicit caveat that FY27 is about credibility and customer traction, not revenue. This quarter shows no visible biologics contribution, consistent with that framing. Concurrent board actions were routine — a fresh grant of 40,500 ESOPs on July 20 and the earlier ₹2 FY26 dividend — none material to the print. The quarter neither confirms nor contradicts the bullish Q4 tone on demand; it simply lands at a slower double-digit pace than the 20%+ ambition set on that call.
What to watch
