Revenue/SSSG growth was strong (28.8%/7%) on aggressive store rollout, but adjusted PAT was down ~21% YoY once the prior-year one-off write-off is stripped out, with EBITDA margin dipping and net margin compressing as finance costs and depreciation from the expansion outpaced operating profit — an ordinary quarter on the metric that matters (adjusted profit growth) despite headline top-line strength.

Baazar Style Retail's consolidated revenue from operations rose 28.8% YoY to ₹486.38 Cr in Q1 FY27 (₹377.47 Cr a year ago), driven by 7% same-store sales growth and a 19% YoY expansion in store count to 276. Consolidated PAT of ₹2.23 Cr (NPM 0.46%, EPS ₹0.30) is up 8.5% YoY on a reported basis, but the year-ago quarter's ₹2.06 Cr PAT included a ₹0.77 Cr exceptional insurance-claim write-off; stripping that one-off from the base, PAT is actually down roughly 21% YoY — the adjusted number is the real read, not the headline growth. Sequentially the company swung from a ₹25.65 Cr consolidated net loss in Q4 FY26 to this quarter's profit, but that loss was itself driven mainly by a ₹20.65 Cr exceptional write-off plus a negative pre-exceptional PBT of ₹15.4 Cr, so the QoQ turnaround is largely a seasonal Q1-vs-Q4 pattern (Q4 carries heavier discounting) rather than a step-change in the business — it should not be read as the headline story.

Margins show the underlying pressure: Ind-AS EBITDA margin held up at roughly 15.4% of total income, near the top of management's guided 14-15% band and only modestly below the 16.1% clocked a year ago, but net margin compressed to 0.46% from 0.54% because finance costs (₹20.28 Cr) and depreciation (₹51.83 Cr) — both elevated by the aggressive store rollout and associated lease/ROU accounting — grew faster than the operating profit line. No formal published analyst consensus for this print was found in a web search, so vs-street is unknown; the company's own July 2 business update had already flagged the ₹486 Cr revenue and 7% SSSG ahead of today's formal results, so there was no revenue surprise at the print. On guidance: management has not issued fresh numeric targets for FY27 in the record available; the last formal guidance (Feb 2026 concall) was for FY26, and that closed out roughly in line — FY26 revenue grew ~37% (vs 35% guided), FY26 Ind-AS PAT margin came in at ~2.53% (within the 2-3% guided band) and FY26 EBITDA margin at ~14.9% (within the 14-15% band). This quarter's 7% SSSG comfortably clears the 4-5% full-year SSG band guided for FY26, and the 0.46% PAT margin, well below the 2-3% full-year band, is consistent with Q1 being the seasonally softest quarter for a value-fashion retailer rather than a guidance miss.

What management guided (3 FY-2026 call)
For FY26, the company revised its revenue growth guidance to 35% year-on-year, with pre-Ind AS EBITDA margin guided at 7-8% and PAT margin at 3-4%. On an Ind AS basis, EBITDA is guided at 14-15% and PAT margin between 2-3%. Full-year SSG guidance is revised to 4-5%. With the new strategic investment, the company plans

This quarter: met

On corporate activity: the board approved these results and re-designated the CMO to Head E-commerce on the same day (Aug 13); CARE confirmed proper utilisation of the ₹331.53 Cr preferential-issue funds (Jul 31), of which ₹82.88 Cr (25%) has been received with the balance tied to warrant conversion over 18 months, earmarked for debt repayment and new-store capex; store openings continued through the quarter (274 → 275 → 276 stores) alongside two store closures; and the company disclosed filing two civil proceedings (Jul 18) with no financial quantification given. No management press release or MD&A commentary was included in the filing itself beyond the statutory notes, so no additional framing from the company is available to reconcile against the numbers.

  • W1

Same-store sales growth trajectory versus the 4-5% FY26 SSG band — Q1 FY27 SSSG already at 7%, watch if this pace holds through subsequent quarters.

  • W2

    Consolidated PAT margin recovery toward the 2-3% Ind-AS full-year band (FY26 actual ~2.53%) from this quarter's seasonally-low 0.46%.

  • W3

Store network pace toward the 60-80 stores/year target (500+ by FY29) — network at 276 stores (+19% YoY) as of Q1 FY27; and utilisation of the remaining 75% of preferential-issue proceeds earmarked for debt reduction given rising finance costs.

No exceptional items this quarter; the Q1 FY26 base quarter carried a ₹0.77 Cr exceptional PP&E-insurance-claim loss, so raw and adjusted YoY PAT growth diverge sharply. Standalone and consolidated are near-identical — the sole subsidiary is immaterial (₹0.04 Lakh revenue, ₹0.56 Lakh loss). Converted from ₹ Lakhs as reported.
