Can GAEL sustain momentum as capacity builds?
After a 171% profit surge in Q1, the cornstarch and sweeteners maker faces expectations of sustained growth—driven by pricing power and volume recovery—as it executes a ₹333 crore expansion in Hubli.
The Setup
Gujarat Ambuja Exports delivered a 171% surge in Q1 net profit to ₹176.93 crore, backed by a 23.5% revenue rebound to ₹1,594 crore. That turnaround—from elevated commodity prices and operational leverage—sets a high bar for Q2. The Street consensus is BUY, with a median target of ₹198 (13.8% upside), pricing in a sustained recovery and execution on the firm's ₹333 crore Hubli expansion (850 TPD corn wet mill, commission Q4 FY29). The question is whether margins hold and volumes remain resilient as Q2 corn starch and sweeteners pricing settles.
~₹160–180 Cr
Strong baseline from Q1 ₹177 Cr; assume modest YoY growth and margin discipline
~₹1,550–1,650 Cr
Sequential stability; sustained volume + pricing power in starch & sweeteners
~14–16%
Guided by commodity input costs; Q1 saw elevated margins from recovered selling prices
~80–90%
Existing 5,150 TPD maize processing run-rate; Hubli expansion off critical path for Q2
A strong print would show: (1) net profit >₹175 Cr, sustaining Q1's elevated margins, (2) revenue sequentially flat or up, signalling steady demand in corn starch and sweeteners export markets, and (3) clarity on the Hubli capex spend and timeline. A weak print would reflect: (1) profit compression below ₹150 Cr from falling commodity prices, (2) revenue decline >5%, pointing to demand softness, or (3) no narrative update on expansion execution, leaving investors uncertain on long-term scale-up to 9,000 TPD by 2030.
On Track?
Yes. Q1 proved the company can scale profit when commodity price cycles align. The full-year trajectory depends on two things: (1) sustaining Q1's elevated EBITDA margins (14–16% range) through Q2 and Q3, and (2) starting Hubli capex on schedule without balance-sheet strain. FII ownership rose to 3.02% in Q1 (from 2.19% in Q4 FY26), suggesting institutional confidence in the recovery. Dividend continuity (30% payout, ₹0.30 per share) and strong free cash flow from Q1 support the narrative.

What to Watch on Result Day
1. Margin resilience: Can EBITDA margins stay in the 14–16% band, or have commodity input costs squeezed Q2 down to 12–13%? This is the swing factor. 2. Segment performance: Which product (starch, sweeteners, feed) drove growth? Any pricing pressure in export markets? 3. Capex spend: How much of the ₹333 crore Hubli project has been funded and spent through Q2? Any timeline changes? 4. Full-year guidance: Clarification on FY27 profit run-rate and capex phasing for Hubli will frame the stock's next move. Stock trades at ~9.5x Q1 annualised EPS; an upside surprise could re-rate higher.
Gujarat Ambuja's Q2 print is a momentum test: the Street is watching for sustained profit (₹160–180 Cr is on-plan) and evidence of execution on the ₹333 crore Hubli expansion, which positions the firm to double maize processing capacity by 2030. The macro backdrop—commodity pricing, export demand for starch and sweeteners, and cost inflation—will dominate the narrative. BUY consensus with ₹198 target reflects belief in the cycle, but margin volatility and project execution are the live questions.
GAEL Q2 FY27: consolidated PAT jumps 247% YoY to ₹131.8 Cr as margins more than double

Gujarat Ambuja Exports' consolidated PAT came in at ₹131.79 Cr for Q2 FY27, up 247% YoY from ₹38.02 Cr a year ago, on revenue of ₹1,450.73 Cr that was down 2.4% YoY. This falls short of our pre-result preview's on-plan range (PAT ₹160–180 Cr, revenue ₹1,550–1,650 Cr, EBITDA margin 14–16%) and is also down 25% QoQ from Q1 FY27's ₹176.77 Cr — so while the YoY story is a genuine margin recovery, not a sequential beat, the quarter undershot the bar set going in. No management guidance exists in our records or in this filing's notes, so there is nothing to grade against on that front beyond the preview.
Q2 FY-2027 vs prior quarters
The swing is driven almost entirely by the Maize Processing division, where segment PBIT surged to ₹168.07 Cr from just ₹6.99 Cr a year ago on revenue up 60.5% YoY (₹1,212.26 Cr vs ₹755.45 Cr) — a sharp realization/cost tailwind in starch and sweeteners. That was partly offset by the Other Agro Processing division, where both revenue (₹195.85 Cr vs ₹713.31 Cr, -72.5%) and segment PBIT (₹3.41 Cr vs ₹46.66 Cr) collapsed, which is why total revenue is flat-to-down even as profit more than tripled. Consolidated operating margin (revenue less material/purchase/inventory-change/employee/other opex) rose to 13.60% from 5.10% YoY, and net margin to 9.08% from 2.52% YoY — both roughly doubling or tripling on a low base. Sequentially, though, OPM eased from Q1's 14.55% and NPM from 10.82%, indicating the Q1 momentum moderated rather than accelerated.
The stock went into the print at ₹153.83, down 2.1% over the past month of trading.
On corporate activity, the Board also used this meeting to approve the result; the only operationally relevant development in the quarter is the September 9, 2026 announcement of an ₹333 Cr, 850 TPD corn wet milling plant at Hubli, which is additive capacity for the maize franchise but had no bearing on this quarter's print since it is still at the capex stage (consolidated capital work-in-progress rose to ₹633.87 Cr from ₹442.57 Cr at FY26-end). No standalone press release accompanied the filing beyond the board-outcome intimation, so there is no additional management commentary to reconcile against the numbers.

No exceptional items in either the current or year-ago quarterly column (the ₹3.97 Cr labour-code exceptional sits only in FY26's full-year column), so no YoY adjustment is needed; standalone and consolidated PAT differ by <0.2%, no material divergence.
