Consolidated PAT collapsed 94.5% YoY and revenue fell 43.1% as the trading-subsidiary pass-through business evaporated, with core NPM compressing from 14.6% to 1.4% — a sharp deterioration even though the smaller standalone PVC business held up.

Responsive Industries' Q1 FY27 consolidated print was a sharp miss against both our pre-result preview and its recent run-rate: revenue of ₹192.87 Cr came in well below the ₹340-360 Cr the preview had flagged, and net profit of ₹2.74 Cr missed the ₹15-20 Cr floor by a wide margin. Against the year-ago quarter, revenue is down 43.1% (₹338.71 Cr to ₹192.87 Cr) and PAT is down 94.5% (₹49.87 Cr to ₹2.74 Cr); sequentially, revenue fell 55.2% and PAT fell 88.0% from Q4 FY26. EPS dropped to ₹0.10 from ₹1.87 a year ago. Net profit margin compressed to 1.41% from 14.63% YoY, consistent with the bearish Street stance going in (68 analysts rated the stock Sell pre-result, with consensus targets implying 35-40% downside).

The bulk of the revenue decline traces to the Cost of Traded Goods Purchased line, which fell to ₹18.53 Cr this quarter from ₹263.86 Cr in Q4 FY26 and ₹136.72 Cr in Q1 FY26 — a low-margin, pass-through trading/distribution business, so its pullback explains why margins didn't collapse in proportion to revenue. EBITDA-level margin (OPM) actually held at 12.09%, within the 11-13% band flagged pre-result and up from 10.77% last quarter, though still well off the 21.43% posted a year ago. The bigger squeeze shows up below the operating line, where finance costs and depreciation absorbed a much larger share of a smaller revenue base; net margin fell to a fraction of its year-ago level even as PBT before exceptional items (₹3.64 Cr) stayed marginally positive. There were no exceptional items this quarter, so the weakness is purely operational, not one-off-driven.

Standalone and consolidated tell a broadly similar story: standalone revenue was ₹148.28 Cr with PAT of ₹2.54 Cr, while the three foreign subsidiaries (Hong Kong and USA units, covering the export/LVT vinyl-flooring business the preview flagged as a bull case) added ₹45.60 Cr of revenue but just ₹0.20 Cr of profit and a negative ₹(0.23) Cr other comprehensive income, per the auditor's review note — thin overseas profitability this quarter, not the offsetting driver bulls had hoped for. Management gives no formal guidance on record for this business, so vsGuidance cannot be assessed against a stated target; no separate management commentary accompanied this filing beyond the board-outcome letter, which addressed only the buyback process and said nothing about operating performance. Concurrently, the Board formed a Buy-Back Committee to evaluate a proposed share buyback — flagged pre-result as a possible catalyst — but deferred size, pricing and timing to a future meeting, alongside a previously-set ₹0.10/share dividend record date of August 14, 2026 and the FY26 BRSR filing ahead of the August 24 AGM.

  • W1

Buy-Back Committee's eventual proposal — size, price and timing were not disclosed this meeting.

  • W2

Whether the Cost of Traded Goods Purchased line (₹18.53 Cr vs ₹263.86 Cr QoQ) rebounds or the pullback in trading/distribution volumes is structural.

  • W3

Whether OPM (12.09% this quarter) holds near the 11-13% band and whether NPM (1.41% vs 14.63% a year ago) recovers as finance costs/depreciation normalize against revenue.

Clean typed tables in Rs. Lakhs, converted to Crore. No exceptional items this quarter (FY26 full year carried a Rs.54.13 Lakh labour-code one-off, absent in all quarterly columns). totalIncome, PBT and PAT tie out exactly for both standalone and consolidated across all four columns.
