Bharti Airtel Fined ₹1.53 Lakhs by DoT for Verification Lapses

Bharti Airtel has received a notice from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Bihar LSA, imposing a penalty of ₹1,53,000. The penalty is for alleged violations of subscriber verification norms, identified during a Customer Application Form (CAF) Audit for May 2026. The DoT requires telecom operators to ensure adequate customer verification as per their license agreement. Bharti Airtel stated that it disagrees with the notice and intends to take appropriate action for rectification or reversal of the penalty. The company has indicated that the maximum financial impact is limited to the penalty amount.
