Bharti Airtel fined ₹6.2 Lakh by DoT for subscriber verification norms

Bharti Airtel Ltd has received a notice from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Assam LSA, imposing a penalty of ₹6,20,000. The penalty is for alleged violation of subscriber verification norms, identified during a sample Customer Application Form (CAF) Audit for the quarter ending March 2026. The company's license agreement requires adequate verification of customers. Bharti Airtel stated that it does not agree with the notice and intends to take appropriate actions for its rectification or reversal. The maximum financial impact is limited to the penalty amount.
