Jain Irrigation Commissions 20,000 Tonne Biochar Facility
Jain Irrigation Systems Ltd. (JISL) has commissioned a ~20,000 tonne/annum industrial-scale biochar facility in Jalgaon, Maharashtra. This facility, among the world's largest single-unit biochar reactors, processes over 50 metric tonnes of agricultural residue daily. The project aims to advance climate-smart agriculture, circular manufacturing, and engineered carbon removal at a commercial scale. JISL, in partnership with global experts, will utilize crop and fruit residue to produce biochar, which will be returned to farms to improve soil health and create a farm-to-soil circular economy. This initiative supports India's climate action plans and offers new income streams for farmers while reducing stubble burning.
