JSW Steel Q2 FY27: Consolidated PAT triples YoY to ₹5,359 Cr, beats Street on margins
JSW Steel's consolidated net profit for Q2 FY27 (quarter ended September 30, 2026) came in at ₹5,359 Cr, up 225.6% year-on-year from ₹1,646 Cr in Q2 FY26, on consolidated revenue of ₹54,486 Cr, up 20.7% YoY from ₹45,152 Cr. Sequentially, revenue rose 15.0% and PAT rose 14.1% over Q1 FY27 (revenue ₹47,364 Cr, PAT ₹4,696 Cr). Neither this quarter nor the year-ago quarter carried exceptional items, so the raw YoY growth is also the underlying growth — there is no one-off to strip out. Basic EPS was ₹21.63 against ₹6.66 a year ago and ₹19.05 last quarter. The print beat our pre-result Street read of PAT ~₹3,800-4,200 Cr and an expected EBITDA margin of 16-17%, as well as the on-plan revenue band of roughly ₹47,000-48,000 Cr. The profit surge is margin-led, not volume-shock-led: consolidated net profit margin expanded to 9.84% from 3.65% a year ago, and operating EBITDA margin rose to 18.57% from 15.76% YoY — consistent with management's prior guidance that iron-ore price relief and BF-3 ramp-up volumes would partly offset a ₹12-15/ton coking-coal cost headwind this quarter. That offset was only partial sequentially: OPM eased 124 bps from 19.81% in Q1 FY27, and NPM was roughly flat QoQ (9.77% to 9.84%), so the sequential tailwind is cooling even as the YoY base effect stays large. Total expenses of ₹48,168 Cr grew slower than total income's ₹54,927 Cr, confirming the operating-leverage read. Against the prior concall's FY27 volume target of 28.6 MT (10% like-for-like) and ₹22,000-24,000 Cr capex plan, the quarter's crude steel production of 7.27 MnT keeps the company roughly on the guided pace; the filing itself carries no separate management commentary to grade beyond the numbers, and no press release was available in this context to quote. Standalone performance (revenue ₹42,008 Cr, PAT ₹3,396 Cr, EPS ₹13.55) is secondary to the consolidated print and tells a broadly consistent margin-recovery story. The quarter also saw consolidated debt-equity fall to 0.58 from 1.15 a year ago, helped by the early redemption of $500 million in notes on October 7, 2026, and a favourable Orissa High Court ruling on mineral dispatch demands (October 18, 2026) that removes a legal overhang flagged in our pre-result preview. JSW One Platforms — the JV that filed its IPO DRHP on September 25, 2026 — remains a cash-deployment watch item the company has not yet quantified in this result. The numbers show a margin-driven beat against both Street and our pre-result expectations, with the open question being whether the QoQ margin easing extends into H2 FY27 as the coking-coal headwind persists.
Key Highlights
