Moneyboxx PAT swings to ₹0.91 Cr on loan-sale gain; core lending book posts a loss
Moneyboxx Finance's standalone Q2 FY27 (quarter ended September 30, 2026) PAT of ₹0.91 Cr is up 225% YoY (from ₹0.28 Cr) and 338% QoQ (from ₹0.21 Cr), on revenue from operations of ₹60.96 Cr (+10.8% YoY, +17.2% QoQ). But almost the entire print is manufactured by a single line: a ₹16.67 Cr "net gain on derecognition of financial instruments" — the accounting gain booked when the company sells down loans via assignment/co-lending. Strip that gain out and pre-tax profit turns into a loss of roughly ₹15.66 Cr for the quarter, versus adjusted losses of ₹3.84 Cr last quarter and just ₹0.42 Cr a year ago — the core lending book's underlying loss has widened roughly 34-fold YoY even as the headline print looks like a beat. Reported net profit margin improved to 1.49% of total income (self-disclosed, vs 0.40% last quarter and 0.51% a year ago), but that expansion is entirely a function of the gain-on-sale line, not operating leverage in the lending business. The ex-gain picture is explained on the cost side too: impairment on financial instruments jumped to ₹8.96 Cr from ₹2.19 Cr QoQ and ₹5.27 Cr YoY, which lines up with the ₹6.37 Cr loss booked on selling ₹29.26 Cr of stressed loans (2,276 accounts) to an ARC this quarter — a deliberate balance-sheet clean-up rather than an operating deterioration. That sale, plus continued assignment of performing loans, is also why reported Gross/Net Stage-3 ratios fell to a pristine 0.01%/0.00% (self-disclosed) — stress has been sold off the book, not resolved through recoveries. Employee costs (₹22.12 Cr) and other expenses (₹5.02 Cr) were broadly stable sequentially and YoY, so the swing in profitability sits almost entirely on the revenue-recognition and impairment lines, not the cost base. Total assets crossed ₹1,056.9 Cr as of September 30 (from ₹995.3 Cr at FY26-end), funded partly by the ₹60 Cr NCD raise on September 28 and ₹84 Cr of fresh debt facilities secured on October 1 — debt-equity stands at 2.44x and CRAR at a comfortable 26.35%. Equity capital was flat quarter-on-quarter (₹69.82 Cr vs ₹69.81 Cr), so management's guided H2 FY27 institutional equity infusion (from the August 18 concall) has not yet materialised — that half (Oct 2026-Mar 2027) is still ahead. The other prior checkpoints — 80% secured portfolio by March 2027 (75% as of the last concall) and 10% AUM in renewables by FY27 — are not disclosed in this filing, so progress is unknown rather than met or missed; disbursements normalizing by Q4 FY27 is also not yet due, though the company's own post-quarter update flagged monthly disbursements crossing ₹50 Cr in October. No street estimates for this specific quarter turned up in search, and the company has not issued press-release commentary on this print at the time of this analysis, so there is no management framing to reconcile against the numbers above.
