SML Mahindra Q2 FY27: PAT slumps 44% YoY to ₹11.7 Cr as margins compress sharply
SML Mahindra's standalone Q2 FY27 (quarter ended 30 September 2026) revenue from operations rose 20.7% YoY to ₹669.79 Cr, but profit after tax fell 44.4% YoY to ₹11.70 Cr (from ₹21.05 Cr) as operating margin (OPM) compressed to 4.26% from 7.55% a year ago. The compression traces mainly to a smaller favourable swing in inventory-related costs — this quarter's inventory build cut costs by only ₹22.52 Cr versus a ₹52.18 Cr offset a year ago — only partly cushioned by a lower raw-material cost ratio (78.1% of revenue vs 80.7% YoY) and a sharp drop in finance costs (₹0.90 Cr vs ₹2.87 Cr) as current borrowings fell to ₹28.70 Cr from ₹269.50 Cr at FY26-end. Net profit margin fell to 1.75% from 3.78% YoY. Sequentially the swing is sharper still: revenue is down 30.1% and PAT down 81.6% against the seasonally strong Q1 FY27 (₹957.54 Cr revenue, ₹63.62 Cr PAT, 10.45% OPM), consistent with the CV sector's typical first-half seasonality rather than a deterioration in the underlying run-rate. Public analyst coverage of SML Mahindra remains thin with no published consensus; our pre-result preview had flagged revenue of ~₹700-750 Cr and margin-compression risk — the actual ₹669.79 Cr print came in below that range even as the margin call played out as expected. Management gave no formal quantitative guidance for FY27 on the last call, reaffirming only its FY31 ambition of 10-12% CV market share and ₹15,000 Cr revenue alongside a planned EV bus launch this fiscal; this filing contains no update on that launch. The results statement makes no financial adjustment yet for the ₹525 Cr Truck & Bus Division acquisition from parent Mahindra & Mahindra (board-approved 29 July 2026, BTA signed 5 August 2026), which remains on track to close by 31 January 2027 — any integration costs or revenue contribution will land in future quarters. The company also disclosed it cannot yet estimate the financial impact of new Extended Producer Responsibility rules for end-of-life vehicles pending implementation detail. Half-year PAT is down 14.4% YoY to ₹75.32 Cr on revenue up 16.2% to ₹1,627.33 Cr, confirming the margin pressure is not a single-quarter blip.
