Welspun Specialty swings to Rs.4.5 Cr standalone loss as margin collapses to ~1%
Welspun Specialty Solutions posted a standalone net loss of Rs.4.51 Cr for Q2 FY27, reversing from a Rs.5.16 Cr profit in Q1 FY27 and a Rs.9.65 Cr profit in the year-ago quarter — a swing to loss both sequentially and YoY, even as revenue from operations rose to Rs.240.33 Cr (+24.1% QoQ, +0.52% YoY). PBT was -Rs.3.85 Cr versus +Rs.4.74 Cr QoQ and +Rs.9.65 Cr YoY; EPS was -Rs.0.07 versus +Rs.0.08 and +Rs.0.14. Against our pre-result preview (revenue ~Rs.190-210 Cr, EBITDA margin 5-6%, net profit Rs.5-8 Cr), revenue beat the range but margin and profit missed badly, turning the expected profit into a loss. The squeeze sits on the cost-of-materials line. EBITDA margin (PBT + finance cost + depreciation - other income, over revenue — the same method used for the prior-quarter comparisons) fell to ~1.1% from 5.44% in Q1 FY27 and 6.05% a year ago. Raw-material cost net of the inventory adjustment rose to ~73.8% of revenue this quarter from ~65.5% in Q1 FY27, consistent with input-cost inflation outrunning realizations even as volumes recovered sequentially. That directly contradicts the operating-leverage tailwind management flagged on the Q4 FY26 call (margins expected to benefit as capacity utilization improved) — instead, margins compressed sharply. Management had guided 20-30% FY27 volume growth in the May 2026 concall; H1 FY27 revenue of Rs.434.00 Cr is instead down 1.45% YoY against Rs.440.40 Cr in H1 FY26, leaving the company well behind that trajectory at the halfway mark — a miss on guidance. No company press release accompanying this filing was available to cross-check management's own framing of the quarter. Coverage remains thin — Ventura is the only sell-side name on record (buy, Rs.62 target) — so there is no independent consensus to benchmark against beyond our own pre-result expectations, which the print missed on profitability. The quarter also saw a management reshuffle complete before results (COO resignation for health reasons on Sep 6, new Business Head Rahul Gujar from Oct 1, board refresh in late August) and the company repaid all Rs.35.09 Cr of current borrowings during H1, funded partly by redeeming Rs.272.84 Cr of investments, cutting finance costs to Rs.3.47 Cr from Rs.4.41 Cr QoQ. H2 FY27 now needs to show the guided volume ramp just to approach the lower end of management's FY27 target, and margin recovery depends on whether raw-material costs ease back toward the ~65% of revenue seen in Q1. The quarter reads as a cost-driven miss rather than a demand problem — topline held up YoY while profitability did not.

- Revenue from operations grew to Rs.240.33 Cr, up 24.1% QoQ and 0.52% YoY — beat our pre-result revenue range of Rs.190-210 Cr, but profit missed the Rs.5-8 Cr expectation and landed in a loss instead
