Adani Ports Colombo Terminal Doubles Capacity to 3.2M TEUs
Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) has inaugurated the Phase II expansion of its Colombo West International Terminal (CWIT), doubling its capacity to 3.2 million TEUs. This expansion, involving a total investment of USD 750 million, aims to handle approximately 25% of the Port of Colombo's targeted 13 million TEU capacity by 2028. The enhanced terminal can now simultaneously berth three ultra-large container vessels. CWIT has already achieved a significant milestone by handling 2 million TEUs within its first 18 months of operation, making it the fastest terminal to reach this volume in the Port of Colombo's history. Developed in partnership with John Keells Holdings and the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, CWIT is Sri Lanka's first fully automated deep-water container terminal and has generated over 3,000 jobs.
