Fermenta Biotech Licenses Vitamin B12 Fortification Tech from VIT

Fermenta Biotech Limited has entered into an exclusive license agreement with Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) for a novel Vitamin B12 fortification technology. This technology enables natural in-situ enrichment of Vitamin B12 during the fermentation process for common foods like curd, idli/dosa batters, and breads. The collaboration aims to address Vitamin B12 deficiency, particularly among vegetarian and vegan populations, by making fortified foods a more accessible source. The technology, covered by Indian Patent Application No. 202441015300, demonstrated approximately 80% retention of enhanced Vitamin B12 levels post-cooking in laboratory studies. Fermenta Biotech plans to advance this technology towards practical, market-ready applications, leveraging its expertise in vitamins and food fortification. The commercial potential spans FMCG, food and nutrition, and nutraceutical sectors.
