NMDC Targets Net Zero Operational Emissions by 2047

NMDC Limited has announced its commitment to achieve Net Zero operational emissions by 2047, covering Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions. This initiative is part of its strategy to reduce its carbon footprint and adopt lower-carbon mining practices. The company plans to achieve this through six key strategies: energy efficiency, renewable energy integration, fleet electrification, low-carbon fuels, CCUS, and demand-side management. NMDC aims for at least a 90% reduction in operational emissions, with the remainder offset. The roadmap is divided into three phases: short-term (FY2026-FY2030), medium-term (FY2030-FY2040), and long-term (FY2040-FY2047). The company is already implementing initiatives like wind and solar power installations and plans to enhance rail freight for logistics.
