Orkla India Receives ₹8.4 Cr GST Show Cause Notice

Orkla India Ltd has received a Show Cause Notice (SCN) from the Commercial Taxes Department proposing a demand of ₹8,40,82,951. This includes a tax demand of ₹5,23,57,426, interest of ₹2,64,39,783, and a penalty of ₹52,85,742. The notice, issued under Section 73 of the TNGST Act, 2017 and CGST Act, 2017, pertains to the financial year 2023-24. The issues raised by the department relate to Input Tax Credit (ITC) reversal, reconciliation of exempt supplies, credit notes, and transactions with related parties. Orkla India is currently evaluating the allegations and preparing to submit detailed objections and supporting documents within the stipulated timelines.
