BHEL Faces ₹3.85 Lakh Penalty for Customs Duty Mis-availment

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has received an order from the Office of the Principal Commissioner of Customs, Chennai, imposing a fiscal penalty of ₹3,85,729. The penalty is part of a larger demand for payment of Customs Duty, Interest, Fine, and Penalty totaling ₹9,28,872, due to the wrong availment of Basic Customs Duty under HS Code 9026 instead of 9032. BHEL is currently assessing its right to appeal the order. The company has been directed to pay differential duty of ₹3,55,728.18, interest of ₹1,87,415.15, and the penalty/fine of ₹3,85,729.
