ONGC strikes Gas in Mahanadi Deepwater under Samudra Manthan

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) announced a gas strike on September 18, 2026, at deepwater well MN-DW18-1-H-D in the Mahanadi Offshore Basin, off the Odisha coast. The discovery, part of the Samudra Manthan initiative, occurred at a 1,441–1,452 metre interval. Located approximately 43 km off Konark, its coastal proximity offers potential for early monetization. This find strengthens ONGC’s deepwater exploration program and India’s indigenous hydrocarbon resource base, with development potentially utilizing shared facilities under the PNG Rules, 2025.
