Star Cement to Stop Paying Mineral Cess Post Aug 22, 2026

Star Cement Ltd announced that the Central Government, via the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Act, 2026, has restricted state governments from imposing taxes, cess, and other levies on mineral rights or mineral-bearing lands. Any levies not paid or collected before the amendment are deemed invalid, though amounts already deposited are not refundable. Consequently, Star Cement and its subsidiaries will no longer be required to pay Mineral Cess on Shale (₹25/tonne) and Limestone (₹60/tonne) in Meghalaya, on which they paid ₹35.50 Crore in FY26 and ₹10.15 Crore in FY27 so far. This amendment impacts the company's operational costs.
