Kokuyo Camlin Q1FY27: PAT down 27% YoY to ₹7.3 Cr as margins compress on flat revenue

Kokuyo Camlin's standalone Q1 FY27 (quarter ended 30 June 2026) profit after tax fell 27.4% year-on-year to ₹7.30 Cr from ₹10.06 Cr in Q1 FY26, even as revenue from operations was nearly flat at ₹229.18 Cr (+0.79% YoY, +1.3% QoQ). Profit before tax dropped a near-identical 27.3% to ₹9.83 Cr from ₹13.53 Cr, with the effective tax rate steady around 25.7% in both periods, so the decline is fully margin-driven rather than a tax-line effect. Basic EPS came in at ₹0.73 versus ₹1.00 a year ago. No exceptional items are flagged in the filing, so the YoY comparison is clean. On margins, operating profit margin (EBITDA/revenue) compressed to 6.80% from 8.63% a year ago, and net margin fell to 3.19% from 4.42%, as employee benefit expense rose 5.3% YoY to ₹28.02 Cr against near-flat topline growth, squeezing operating leverage. Sequentially both margins improved sharply off a weak Q4 FY26 base (OPM 4.79%, NPM 1.27%), with PAT up 153% QoQ — a recovery off a soft prior quarter rather than fresh momentum, given QoQ revenue growth was just 1.3%. There is no prior concall commentary or formal management guidance on record for this company, and no verifiable brokerage consensus estimate for this specific quarter could be located, so both the guidance and street comparisons are marked unknown rather than assumed. The results filing itself carries no forward-looking management commentary beyond the standard SEBI disclosures; the company continues to operate as a single reportable segment (consumer products/stationery) per Ind AS 108, with no subsidiaries as of the quarter-end. The print follows the company's FY26 annual results, where full-year PAT rose 325% YoY to ₹24.79 Cr and a ₹0.30/share dividend was recommended — this quarter's ₹7.30 Cr contributes about 29% of that full-year FY26 PAT, and the YoY margin compression here marks a step down from the pace set in FY26.
